yea the wonka carrecter is very weak indeed. i guess they changed it so it could appeal to children more maybe, as they were complaining the first movie being too dark. I dont think the balance was caught here...

Yeah, as long as the ???????? rolls in who cares. How sad. It could've been done so well.

yea it was good, but..I think it needed more..then what it already had..
It was a good movie in general, but I didn't like it as much as some people did, even as a kid...

I don't know if I can accept someone else's rendering of Willy Wonka as I thought Gene Wilder did his Character brilliantly. He was so beleivable as being intelligent and crazy. Sort of like what version of James Bond you grew up with. Roger Moore is James Bond to me.

My fav part was when Grandpa Joe and Charlie snuck a snip of the fizzy lifting drink and could fly.....................

Definetely going to see it this month!

I read the book dozens of times as a kid and could only see the show once a year as e didn't have a VCR or cable yet.

When I saw it again as an adult (bought the DVD for my daughter) hearing this song again gave me chills. Wonka sang it when they entered the chocolate waterfall room;

Quote:
Song: Pure Imagination Lyrics

Willy Wonka:
[Spoken]
Hold your breath
Make a wish
Count to three

[Sung]
Come with me
And you'll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you'll see
Into your imagination

We'll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we'll see
Will defy
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanta change the world?
There's nothing
To it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You'll be free
If you truly wish to be

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanta change the world?
There's nothing
To it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You'll be free
If you truly
Wish to be

That film must be pretty old now too, anyone know how old exactly? Gotta be 20 years at least. I reckon it looked rather good for its time.

I believe early 70's. 1973 comes to mind for some reason, but that might not be right.

I just fiunished watching the new one. It is an ok movie. I did like it, but you can't really expect to be able to compare it with the old movie at all.

I watched it this Sunday.

I've read the book a long time ago.

My opinion is that the Wilder flick was much better than the Depp one from a film standpoint but the Depp one is far more accurate from a book standpoint.

It's worth a watch but I wouldn't herald it as better than the original. Depp's character, imho, was very weak.

BTW, it is SUPPOSED to be dark. Also, imho, it IS a fucking musical.

My biggest gripe was with the CG duplicated oompah. How cheap can you be?

I saw it opening day on a hit of some acid and it was visually awesome, but I will agree that it could never compare to the original film. Wilder did a much better as Wonka in my opinion but Depp still made a good showing.

I haven't seen this yet, but just an fyi... The guy who wrote the script for the new movie only used Roald Dahl's book as a reference. He never ever even saw the original movie until *after* he finished his own version. So everybody talking about the producers changing things from the first movie aren't really right, because they produced the movie based on the new script, which was based only on the book without using the first movie as a reference at all. So, actually, this isn't a remake at all but a totally new interpretation of the book. Also, supposedly, Dahl hated the original film.

I think there is only one oompa loompa, but they use fancy special effects to make it look like he is a whole bunch of them. he is just some random terrorist-looking midget. roy something. Fuck this movie, don't see it.
