Those aren't hyphal knots heh. At first I thought green mold but it is rare for it to grow on mycelium like that. Ditto man.

I have the same thing. They are just mutant mushrooms.Mine came from being in the jar and having no place to grow so it turned into a blob like that one.Did your cake take a while at the end to colonize? My cake slowed way down at the last little bit and the blob grew while it finished. If this is what happened to you then don't worry about it it's fine. Good Luck !

I had the same things and Oscuro Lobo told me this:
Photos:
I assume it looked something like this..
It's a mycellium bump. Normal, healthy mushroom tissue. No worries.
Can be used as any mushroom would.

I believe they can be defined as hyphal knots. True, the traditional pic/definition you will find of hyphal knots is a little pre-pin bump.
However, what are shown in the pic (and a very common occurence for many cultivators) are simply lumps of hyphae, i.e. hyphal knots.
They are fine. They are simply strands of mycelium that have simply "over-reached" the substrate in their growth without primordia formation.
I believe the reason for the formation of such distinct and large hyphal knots is probably "stuffy" conditions that were not "optimal" for pin initiation.
Anyway, when the time comes, the knots can be harvested and consumed. They are simply mycelium masses.
And yes, cakes do not overlay (they don't have any casing layer to overlay into.) A fully colonized cake has already colonized the surface of the substrate.

I have some that have grown to over 1 inch in diameter. They are hard and dense. Very little water weight. They blue like crazy and look kind of like Smurf shit when dried. I wonder how they would do if cloned and cultured invetro. I have picked alot of these off of my currant grow. They have been in the fruiting chamber for almost two weeks. I havn't got any shrooms yet, but I have picked around 1/4 Oz. of these little popcorn shrooms. Anybody else have ideas as to what causes these?

I have the weird GT's in the same fruiting chamber with two other strains. They were birthed at the same time. It has only done this on the GT's. A few of them have developed something that looks like a cap. It looks more like a dark nipple on a white marble. most of them stay pure white and just keep growing. Is this a genetic trait? Could the spores have been exposed to something that would cause growth like this? I got one that was over 1 inch. It dried out at 1.2 grams. They seem to be a good bit more potent then full grown shrooms. Can anybody tell me more about these blobs?
