"White guy spicy", LOL.  It's true, though, people of any ethnicity other than Caucasian will automatically assume you're a spice pussy if you have light skin.  Mexicans do the same thing.

That reminds me of a really fucking funny story my friend told me. (He's a white guy, BTW, and one of those that can handle all sorts of spices.)

My friend apparently told me that he complained at a Mexican restaurant because his taco wasn't spicy enough.

The Mexican guy apparently thought he would troll my friend, so he put in a FUCKLOAD of raw jalapeños in the tacos. My friend said his face looked so shocked when my friend just came back asking for more jalapeños.

I can eat jalapenos by the fistful on my subs but ive never been a huge fan of their flavour. People make me feel weird when i eat spicy shit in front of them. Honestly ive eaten things i didnt even think were hot then got someone to try it because it was good, only to have them all pissy with me for not warning them it was spicy. To me, unless it hurts, there's tears, or i look like a sweaty tomato, its not spicy. Too many people think shit like pepper makes food spicy.

Jalapenos aren't even close to the hottest pepper though, there are some spicy motherfucking peppers out there.

 Used to work for a pizza place where all the cooking staff and cleaners were Mexican and the bastards all loved me cuz I was the only gringo there that could tolerate the home-cooked food they'd always bring in. Some of the other white people there couldn't get through half a plate because they felt like so, :onfire:. I'd usually wind up downing a couple plates whenever they brought some in....that job taught me an essential life lesson. If you compliment a Mexican's cooking, they'll love you forever.

Pretty much most "ethnic" countries have this really lovely concept of hospitality, and these cultures associate joy with cooking for other people.

Korean people are like that, Italian people are like that, French people are like that, Mexicans are like that, Thai people are like that, Filipinos are like that… they consider food to be a joy that is meant to be spread and shared with others.

A lot of American friends are very surprised by my hospitality when they come over to my place. I offer my bed while I sleep on the couch, I buy gourmet foods and cook it for them… that's what happiness is supposed to be. That's how I was raised. You treat your guests with honor, with lots of food and wine and joy.

Then again, that may be because I lived in California. People in California get pissed off if you go to their house and ask for something to eat because you're hungry. They view it as you "raiding their fridge." There are many hospitable areas in America too--the Bible Belt, for example.

See, most places that serve jalapeños, especially on sandwiches, are pickled jalepenos, which are incredibly salty but not really that spicy. Also in many of these places, the jalapeños are cut hours beforehand, and once they are cut the spiciness degrades.

This guy served RAW, freshly-cut jalapeños to my friend in an attempt to troll him.

It does, you just have a high tolerance. Like with weed, but with hot foods.

Yep, Jalapenos in a jar are very diluted by the juice and what not. Straight jalapenos are a different story but still, are not that high on the Scoville Scale.

People do actually go to the emergency room by accidently eating peppers meant strictly for flavor, sometimes they panic, other times it's actually a heart attack. I've eaten some spicy shit, I don't even want to KNOW what the top few peppers are like. You'd probably get blisters on your tongue.

Yes, I'm aware jalapeños are very low on the Scoville scale. But bear in mind this is the same friend who also uses fucking PEPPER SPRAY (AKA pure capsaicin) on his foods.

That guy is just crazy. I'm pretty sure what he is tasting isn't even food anymore, it's just madness.

Habaneros is about where I draw the line on enjoyable. Anything else needs to be diluted or something.

I think some day I'm going to make stuffed habaneros. Sounds good and I just came up with the idea.

I draw the line on chile verde, but if I want to punish myself I might chew on a cayenne.

Yeah...in the Midwest (in my experience) the general rule of thumb is not to ask for food/drink because the host will almost inevitably offer. If you do ask, do so politely and you'll nearly always get the go-ahead...and thats pretty much even as a stranger or distant acquaintance. When you've known someone for awhile they'll pretty much be alright with you helping yourself to whatever they have....though I still ask out of habit if I want to mooch some of their food. Just doesn't feel right helping myself to someone elses fridge or pantry.

Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

Umm....this sounds like it would cause serious health problems coming in contact with your throat, stomach and intestines.

Have you ever had the hottest wings flavor at Buffalo Wild Wings?  All I know is that it's called "Blazin" and it comes with a warning: Keep away from your eyes, pets, children.

I ate 3 of them, they were super spicy, and I washed my hands, and then accidentally wiped my eye afterward. I was shocked by how much it burned my eye even after I washed my hands. The effects of the burning lingered for like 20 minutes afterwards too.

Apparently I'm reading it was on the  200,000 – 350,000 Scoville levels: http://www.scottrobertsweb.com/scott-tackles-the-buffalo-wild-wings-blazin-challenge/

Never been to Buffalo wild wings, but if I ever go, I'll definitely give them a shot. My digestive system isn't quite on board with my tongue when it comes to spiciness so I'll pay for it and I know I will, but I don't care about that asshole (pun not intended lol)

Actually, one thing I've noticed about spices is that you can develop a tolerance to it. I'm sure he started off low, and then gradually increased to pepper spray.

I noticed this tolerance, because when I was going through my meth phase, I was convinced that I had parasites in my body and I had to get rid of them. So for 6 months I was eating tons of raw garlic, eating spicier and spicier food. And at first I noticed that it was really hard to down them at first because they were so spicy. But after a few weeks of eating like that, I got used to it, and it tasted like regular food to me.

Yeah, maybe I had cheap-ass friends or something. I never ever raid a fridge without asking, unless I've known them for a long time. But I've gone over to people's houses, and found myself really hungry, so I just asked for some chips or a granola bar or something small, and a lot of them would roll their eyes and be like, "Seriously, bro? You want to take my food?"

Maybe it's an age thing too. Because I noticed their parents were usually pretty hospitable when I was over, they would bring over some El Pollo Loco or pizza to feed me.

I always offer food and drink to visitors; I think it's rude not to.  And if people are less than dazzled by my cooking, I feel deeply ashamed.  Probably a mixture of my Midwest upbringing, my Mexican heritage and my general female-ness.
