Just made dinner...it tasted like ass

I just ate my dinner that I spent a great deal of time preparing. I drove round to source some organic/fresh produce to use.

I came up with the idea of portabella mushrooms de-stemmed, with basil pesto and cottage cheese over the top. On top a of blanched asparigus and brocolli. With fried tofu and roasted pistachio's.

I must say the shrooms and veg was great. But the tofu turned out horrible. I used garlic and white wine. But I think on re-heating (as I'm now eating this at work) the tofu let go of the juices.

Quite disappointed.

Any one got a good marinade for tofu?

marinade?...No. I just let that shit soak in some Real Good hotsauce for a while. Not really a marinade.

Breaded,and Fried Tofu, Like a Fired Cheese Stick. With Bright orange Hotsauce Soaked Tofu inside.

You a vegetarian dude? Cause if not, I'd suggest getting rid of the fuckin tofu and adding some steak to that shit:super:, that would make it much better :lol:

I notice it has an itallian feel.
Try this for the Tofu:
Balsamic Vinegar
Basil, Oregano, rosemary and Garlic
Olive oil
lemon juice
(a few ground pine nuts if you REALLY wanna go all out)

Fry it in olive oil after its done marinated

I had grannys old specialty for dinner.

1. Toss the carcass in the bathtub and if yous got some air freshener handy you better get it now.

2. Skin em down to the bone and place in a garbage bag. Don't leave any meat behind. Meat left behind is being wasteful. Being wasteful is a sin.

3. Take the bones to the basement and grind em into a nice fine powder. Bury it in the backyard and say a quick prayer.

4. Take the meat and fillet into thin strips. Vacuum seal any leftover pieces of slab and place in the freezer. If you don't believe you will be using the extra meat you could donate it to your local sausage factory. Remember, being wasteful is a sin.

5. Put your fresh fillet in a large crock of marinade and let it rest in the fridge for approximately 7 days.

6. Grill and eat.

Thanks MisterMuscaria. Yeah the only marinade that's tried and tested in my books is Balsamic/Basil/Garlic. I use that one for my tofu burgers :thumbup:
Your version looks like a good cocktail though.

I like the sound of the hot sauce too.


Nah I'm not Vegetarian arbalest, too much meat tends to rot my gut.

Anyone got some other good vege recipes? I'll be off to the market in a few days to check out whats in season.

Wow thanks. They sound good. What the hell is 'duck sauce'?  And I'm not familiar with cilantro?

I like anything besides, olives, pumpkin, and tinned fish. Not too keen on capers either. Apart from that I love food!

I have a good selection of foods available, live near produce/meat/fish markets. And have allot of ethnic shops close by.

Vegetarian. "duck sauce" is that orangeish sauce they have at asian restaraunts in the little packs, its sweet and made of apricots among other things. Cilantro is the leaves of coriander.

I found a great recipe. Rice Paper Rolls with Quinoa Omelette and Spiced roasted Tomato Sauce. Sounds and looks great

The trick with tofu is having a great skillet. Buy firm or extra firm tofu and sear it, get it crispy, in your favorite flavors.

I'd get plain tofu and none of the pre-flavored ones. Tofu absorbs the flavors you're cooking with...

Dang! After being somewhat disappointed with my meal and still a little hungry I made the Hungry Jacks mission.
I thought 'I have sorta eaten, so I'll just get a cheeseburger'

Only to get back and there's NO CHEESE IN MY CHEESEBURGER. Just something resembling meat in a dried roll.:mad2:

i like to put tofu in my mongolian bbq

it takes on whole new dimensions when mixed with everything else.

and mongolian is actually chinese, they call weird things mongolian.

i am still in support of keeping the mongolians out of south park :crankey:

Here are a couple of my favorite marinades:
Itallian marinade:
2 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
2 tbsp Olive Oil
1/2 cup white wine
pinch Basil
pinch Oregano
2 tbsp Lemmon Juice
2 cloves Garlic, mashed
pinch marjoram
pinch thyme
2 tbsp tamari


Spicy marinade:
1/4 cup hot sauce
1/2 cup wine
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp cayenne

its a form of chinese food, there are tons of vegetables that can go with it.

i like lots of carrots.

as much as i like broccoli, i dont like it in my mongololian.
