LBMs growing on woodchips...ID please?

Sorry, no pictures. I'm sure they're not active, because they don't bruise blue. I'm making a sporeprint right now.
a. Habitat - Wet woodchips, found within 24 hours of the year's first thunderstorm (SF bay area). I found about 5 young specimens, scattered throughout the small woodchipped area in a parking-lot divider. b. Gills - brownish at center, lightening to amber. I guess they're attached, but I'm not sure what that means. Gills, not pores. c. Stems are 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches, caps were generally a little more than an inch across d. Characteristics of the stem - same color as cap/gills, solid but fragile, "peels" when broken (like celery). Pretty thin. e. Characteristics of the cap - dark brown at center (slight umbo) lightening to tan/amber, pretty flat except for one which was conical. f. Awaiting spore print g. Doesn't bruise, but is very fragile and breaks up easily (leaving me with a gummy blob of goo where my mushroom used to be) h. Scent of mushroom - mushroomy.
I realize it'll be hard to ID from my description, but I appreciate your help anyway.
Would the fact that these shrooms are young prevent them from dropping spores?

i think attatched gills means the gills are attatched to the stem

Definitely not coprinus, the cap is nearly flat in most and much more solid than Coprinus. Plus, it's a different color than the pictures I'm looking at of Coprinus.
Any other guesses, anyone?

is this statement:

and rest of your description accurate? the only thing at all in your description not pointing to coprinus is the brow gills. check them again and be sure all your details are accurate. it is common in coprinus species for the gills to go from white to pinkish, to pinkish/grey to black and i can see easily where a dark pinkish grey could be taken for brown.

It's definitely not this color: Which is Coprinus Auricomus, the 'dark pinkish gray' Coprinus I think you're talking about. These shrooms were more the color of the young bulletheads in the bottom of the pic, but way different in shape. The caps were nearly flat with an umbo, except for one very young one which was kind of conical. The stem is this same brown color, darker than the color of the stems in this pic. The shrooms, as I say, were very fragile and broke up/deteriorated so much that I threw them out earlier today. (I tossed them on a woodchipped area similar to where I found them, so if any grow there then I'll have some more specimens to look at.) I looked at all the pictures of the California Coprinus species on MykoWeb, and these really don't look much like any of them. I remember some site where you can plug in a bunch of information about your mushroom, and the program narrows it down for you...does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link? Thanks to all who have posted so far.

It may be a Psathyrella most of them are fragile and the gills are brown, or a Panaeolus.

psathyrella would sound like a likely cadidate, but the delliqescence[sp?] would suggest otherwise.

it is not. i am not thinking of any coprinus species in particular at this point, as you have not given enough information to have a species in mind.

Yeah, sorry about having no pictures. I realize it's probably close to impossible to ID an LBM based on a newbie description and no pic

caller11: it's ok. it will help if there are any noticable features you can note that you have not told me about before. any details you can give wil bring us closer to an id.

Or some other small mushroom that is sticky enough to form a blob.

They do look similar to Psathyrella Bipellis, but a different color - it was more orange-brown than these. Also, they weren't clumped together, and the description says they're normally found in late winter to early summer. (Plus, according to Mykoweb this species doesn't even grow in California.) ^ Psathyrella Bipellis, which my shrooms are not Look at it this way...there's only, what, 10 thousand species of mushrooms? Process of elimination, baby =) I may have exaggerrated the 'blob of goo' part. They did flake and disintegrate, but not to the extent of melting in my hand.

does it say that, or is it simply not listed? not every species that grows in california, nor even every species known to grow in california, nor even in the bay area is listed.

oh yeah this could take a while :P

I found those! Growing in a yard, the old ones dried to a blue-grey.
