I stoped there a few time I Fucking hate southern Cali I'm more of the northern Cali kind of guy
It's nice to visit but I would hate living there

Northern Cali is more my flavor too, but it's way more expensive than Southern Cali.

San Jose, San Francisco, San Mateo, Napa, all the apartments start around $4,000 a month. Even in shitty, crime-trodden Oakland rent rates are super high.

What are you talking about? Maybe for a LUXURY apartment in a gated complex, with extremely fancy appliances and fixtures and architectural details.

You can find a nice place for like $1200. For a luxury apt you can find a cheap one for like, 2k a month.

People think cali is expensive but it's really all RELATIVE. You get paid a little more in california so it all evens out. The only thing more expensive in cali is if you are OWNING. If you rent then it's really not much more expensive.

They do not get paid anywhere near the cost of living. Even if you are making $50,000, anywhere along the West Coast of California, that will only get you a shared apartment with somebody else. Groceries are also far more expensive in California than in other states.

The minimum wage in California is also not that much higher than other states. It only differs by making 25-75 cents in many cases.

If you don't have kids, you're single, and you don't live EXTRAVAGANTLY, then $50k a year is enough for your own apartment or loft or whatever.

 You cannot find a nice place for $1200. $1200 is what I was paying for a 1-bedroom in Lakewood, which is not exactly a city, and it wasn't in the nice area of Lakewood either. It was actually along the border of Long Beach.

I went apartment shopping many times in my life. $1,800 is the minimum for 1-bedroom apartments in nice areas in Southern California. These were not "luxury apartments" either, these were the most basic apartments in Huntington Beach. Huntington Beach isn't even that nice of an area, and its school districts aren't that great.

Maybe you can find apartments for $1200 in "North" Orange County, AKA Garden Grove or Costa Mesa or Buena Park or Anaheim (AKA Anacrime), but these are definitely not "nice areas."

An apartment in prime areas that are "luxury" areas will cost around $3,000.

And Northern California is much, much more expensive. Have you not been following the news? Why do you think they have been evicting all middle-class people in SF?

Yeah but, why the fuck would you want to live like that just for to live in a nice apartment? I'm guessing you're still in college, so you don't realize how much owning a car and insurance rates and healthcare and smartphones and an IRA and taxes costs just yet.

$50K = $40-$45K after taxes. You can afford basically a basic, 1-bedroom apartment, and it won't be in a nice area, you're going to be living in Long Beach, North Orange County, Boyle Heights, those kind of areas.

I haven't lived in california for like 7 years.

I want to move back because the weather is PERFECT, it's relatively safe, the people are cultured and not ignorant, more people are health conscious and so the stores and restaurants cater more to those kinds of people, which is important to me. I could go on. California is the best place other than the mediterranean in europe.

Yes, about 10 years ago you could find apartments for $1500 or less. In Long Beach a 3-bedroom apartment costed $1300 back then. $1500 can get you a studio in San Francisco if you look hard enough.

Good luck spending your Whole Paycheck at Whole Foods.

Mediterranean? You mean like Italian? In that case, New York beats California any day. Manhattan and Staten Island was originally guidoland, you know. Where do you think Little Italy is?

California is a big place. I've lived here for over 25 years and I've only explored like not even 5% of it..

It's a universe with thousands of alternate realities, just depends which you will choose.. If that makes any sense...

Barely. And that's actually entirely debateable.

Cali is a very large and very diverse state. It is difficult to make generalizations about it. I like it though. There's everything from Giant metropolitan cities to uninhabited islands, glaciers, rivers, coastal rain forests, deserts, beaches, etc. Everything from large towns to deserted rural areas.
