Re: My job wants me to relocate--Providence, Philadelphia, or New Orleans? [Re: Crystal G]

What about all the costs associated with driving rather than taking public transportation? What about all the time you'd spend in rush hour living away from the city? Surely that time has a value to it. And Access to better city grocery and specialty stores... There's more than just tax considerations.

Right, but I'm going to have a company car with an unlimited gas card. And Bensalem is only 10-15 minutes from Philly.

Although I probably won't be using the company car on the weekends (just in case an accident happens, I don't want to break the contract of my use with the company car), I would like to have access to public transport to the city on the weekends.

There's the same public trans in the surrounding areas as in Philly itself.

I'm seeing a lot of buses, but not really a whole lot of trains. I prefer to travel by train than by bus. What time do the trains close in Philly? I'm guessing they don't run 24/7 like NYC.

I think I may prefer Providence slightly more than Philly, because it seems to be a quaint old town that is very rich in history, whereas Philly is more urban metropolitan city (with super high real estate value!!!). I however, would like to hear the opinion of other people who have lived in, or visited either city.

P.S. Bear in mind, I will be driving a car, not taking public transportation. I'm sure driving in Philly would be hell.

I dated a girl out in Philly for a while. She did a lot of driving for her job and she did pretty well with it. Often on the weekends she would take us across the city into NJ where we would go to the beach together. It seemed like a nice deal to be so close to the beach.

My favorite part about the city was a park located near the university of Drexel. The park sat right along the river in which crew teams would row all day. The park was full of people exercising and having picnics. I loved that.

I attended some IABC meetings in Philly too. The business people were really nice to my particular style. Everyone was all shaved up on their face, but I kept my beard. Nobody cared or treated me any different. In fact, one graphic designer named Barbara Blosser took me under her wing and examined my graphic design portfolio with great extent. She told me what was good and what I needed to do. What is strange about this is that she approached me! She was just a really nice person who wanted to help. As a person from Philly, she was really kind.

I went to asia town and people were really nice there. The culture was spot on. Kids were break-dancing in the park, lovers were picnicking, and I ate so much sushi I almost threw up. It was fun.

In Philly I wandered around the streets a lot talking to random people. I met some fine dames on a porch once and they were very kind to me. I stopped and had a nice talk with them and then they pointed me in the directed where I would most likely be able to score a dime on the street. I followed their advice and scored a ten bag in the "ghetto." People in the ghetto were really nice to me too. A guy with a cane sword hooked me up with the smoke. True story. Nice people.

P.S.

City of Philadelphia = marijuana decriminalized :stoned:

I'm actually surprised my last boss said good things about me. Like a year ago there was this time where I went on a full crack binge and didn't even show up for like 2 months.

This just goes to show you, that employers really only remember your most recent, last work.

I probably would have chosen New Orleans just so I didn't end up with a crescendoing collection of Philly stampbags.

Could you do me a huge favor, and go into my Philadelphia thread, and ask about the following areas: Conshohocken, King of Prussia, Manayunk and Northern Liberties.

Budget-wise, I'm having a difficult time finding apartments with parking around Center City or Northern Liberties.

Anyway, if you post it, please let me know what people say about these places. I had heard that around Northern Liberties is a "gayborhood." XD

She'll be back soon so if anybody has any knowledge of this help a sista out

I'd go with Conshohocken or Manayunk personally.

Both are real nice areas, with a good nightlife, and it's easy to get downtown whether you drive or use public transportation. Parking is still an issue, particularly in Manayunk though. Not as bad as Center City though. She should have an easier time finding an apartment complex with parking for a better price. Conshy is outside the city proper, and thus anyone that lives there & works in the city pays a little bit less for the Philly wage tax. That's probably where I'm gonna wind up looking.
