I like experiencing intelligent individuals in my daily discourse

There are highly intelligent individuals all dispersed along the west coast--they primarily tend to reside around San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland.

Of course you're a conservative, so your version of "intelligent" might be Newport Beach, Bel-Air, and Palos Verdes Estates. Not my version of intelligent, but they may be more your flavor.

When I visited Seattle, it was so refreshing, because it is one of the few cities in America where most of the younger generation was still reading BOOKS on the train. Not just fiction books, but history books, philosophy books, political theory books, etc.

It just blew my mind, because you just don't see that a whole lot in Southern California. Most of the population doesn't use public transportation like in Seattle, but when you see people under age 35 at the beach or something, they won't be reading books. Instead, they'll be stuck browsing through their cell phones, or taking selfies of themselves, or out sun-tanning, or playing beach volleyball or something else instead.

I realized Southern California is more "body-conscious," likely because of the hot weather and close proximity to the beach, whereas Seattle is more "mind-conscious." Seattle has so many intelligent people by comparison to Orange County. A lot of people in Seattle love their bold-flavored cappuccino's as well.

While I was there, I chatted with a few people in Seattle about what living in Orange County was like. I described it as, "Imagine being stuck in Ken and Barbie's Dream House, or being stuck at the Playboy Mansion, or being at this beautiful commercialized paradise, and you're the only oddball that's left out and feels like they don't belong." They all said, "Wow. I would hate to live there."

I lived in Orange County for most of my life, and I struggled with horrible identity issues, because my values are not just nothing remotely similar to the people out here. Bodybuilding and tanning are the only things that I have in common with these people (although I don't bodybuild to look good, I do it for strength training), but I gravitate towards intellectuals too.

Hence why I have been trying to get out of this god forsaken place for like years now. And this job is really my ticket out. It's hard finding a job in another state without moving there first.

I'd rather move to San Diego, but that's just me.

Its funny because everyone automatically assumes I'm from California. Always have my whole life.

I'm not a west coaster and I'm ok with that.

Garden Grove

Just being facetious there.

I was fascinated with the food in K-Town last time I went to LA. Made a stop there. Noticed a lot of the restaurants there were blending Korean, Mexican, and American all in one. Such a quirky little place.

Ugly plain-looking neighborhood, but that food is so quirky and inventive.

ARRRGHHHHH!!!!!! So right after they accepted me for the Philadelphia position, I just found out (through email) that they had a San Francisco position. I've ALWAYS wanted to live in Bay Areal!!!! This is so frustrating! But I can't back out now that the operations are set in place for Philly.

LOL, nothing negative even turned up in my background check. So funny. I shouldn't have even declared any misdemeanors from over 10 years ago.

I just remember something...... The Philly wage tax. :crankey: You'll have to pay it regardless, but it's cheaper if you live outside the city.

What's the wage tax if you live in Philly, vs outside the city?

But how much cheaper is it than say, living in Bensalem?

Cause if it's only like $100 a month difference or something I'd probably rather live in Philly, close to the metro.

Coming from California (land of the taxes) it shouldn't matter in my opinion.

It does matter, because I'm receiving a higher salary than what I had in California. If it's going to make $300 a month of a difference, I'll move outside the city, because annual that would mean I could save $3,600.

Only people making $150,000 or more are taxed around 30-35% in California.
