Why is Mississippi so fucked up?

I keep hearing that Mississippi is the asshole of America. Other than the bad stats, I have always wondered why its so fucked up down there.

What the hell is happeing there ecactly?

The state is about 60 years behind in social progression. It is also the poorest state in the USA. It´s also one of the least educated states in USA. I just looked at a rank, and it´s number 2, behind West Virginia for 2014. However, it´s usually in the top 3, ever since I can remember.

Mississippi ain't so bad. It's a little dirty, but nowhere near as bad as Louisiana.

People would rather not work then work basically because it takes less effort and neither goes anywhere when you're that poor, they basically work for a couple years to buy shit then give up completely and live off everyone else selling drugs, under the table etc.

Technically decriminalized, but possesing it in the vehicle is a big deal. How are you supposed to get it home?
My relatives that live around Jackson, they don't seem to know the civil war is over. They stubbornly resist all change, and whine about the good 'ol days. And anyone from further north, Tennessee, Missouri, ect. is a damn yankee, Alabama they hate because of college football, and people from Louisiana are damn dirty coon-ass cajuns. I suspect they are jealous of people from Louisiana, however.
Anything different from them gets hung from a tree limb after dark.
