Who has used metal halide conversion bulbs?
    #20643996 -

With my current grow coming to a finish I was out shopping for lights today and was recomended by the guy at the hydro store I go with one of these MH conversion bulbs.

Its basically a MH light that is built to run in an HPS system, ballast and fitting and everything. It means I can continue using my HPS system without needing new parts to run the MH for vegetative.

So we talked for a while and he gave me a deal on a 600w SolarMax MH conversion bulb. The he tried explaning how bigger growers are now switching their light schedules to have more blue throughout the grow.

It would look something like this:
|Vegetative(MH, X number of weeks)|-|Flowering(MH, Weeks 1-2), Flowering(HPS, Weeks 3-6), Flowering(MH, Weeks 7-8)|

He says the nugs will get much much tighter and Ill save money on bulbs... But I have been growing for some years and never heard of using so much blue spectrum... Anyone else run a similar schedule???

An HPS only ballast will run an MH bulb, but do to the ignitor used to fire up HPS bulbs, it will shorten the life span of the MH bulb.  Most MH conversion bulbs are stupidly priced around $100, that's 2 or 3 cheap normal MH bulbs so you could just replace them more frequently.  I've got a 7200k super MH running in an HPS only ballast right now.  More blue during early flowering will make the nodes tighter and will keep the plant from stretching as much, and more during the end has more UV so it creates more resin.  Some people will run straight 4200k MH bulbs from start to finish.

Yes I will be doing Blue in the first few weeks of flower as I have read that before. Im not too worried about uvb in the end of flower if thats all the MH would do at that point, Ill just keep my HPS on.

Also picked up some seeds for Pure Kush, and The Church! Cant wait to see them growing!!
