    #2031005 - 10/21/03 11:11 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

i have 6 half pint jars and i want to just inject 3 of them and leave the other 3 to do later after harvest of the first run. is it possible to store the "ready to inject jars" that long with out drying out or any other problems?

jars of what?

i'm assuming you have brf jars. jars of anything tend to dry out after a while if you have a filter on the lid or if the lid is loose.

they can last for a long time, though. i have a jar that i cooked around a year ago. it still has not contaminated or dried out, but it has no filter or holes in the lid. i don't plan on using it; i don't even know why i still have it. long term experiment i guess.

remember that the longer your jars sit around, the more chances various contams will have to get at them.

it would be best not to let them sit very long.

I wouldn't, why not do 6 jars total, some might get contaminated. I went through alot of sterilization, and 1 of my 7 got contams. With 6 jars you will learn alot more, I did.

Also, once colonized they can be stored in the fridge for some time, and you have well established mycelium which is much more resistant to contams than an uncolonized jar.

Innoculate all, then when fully colonized store three & run three
