dutch a1 poppy seeds

anyone ever try to grow these? any links on what i can do with them when they are grown and ready to be chopped down? i need some info about dutch a1 strain of poppy. i'm guessing it's an opium producing poppy. anyone know if they are illegal in California?

Howdy!

Over here we grow poppies for seed production, we're not an OPC (Opium Producing Country) because of poor weather. I don't know A1 but its likely a "Tuinpapaver" (Garden Papaver) meaning a producer strain. Dutch poppies grow @ 30-60 plants a square meter. The heads are about walnut sized and like other strains of poppies the dried heads are about as potent as any other.

I'd say collect the heads and don't bother with slicing.

If you are pre-grow I suggest that since you're from a warmer climate that you grow species better suited to that, such as Persian White, Giganteum and Hen & Chickens. A good source for seeds is the culinary site www.somniferum.com who sell them by the oz.

Dutch poppies generally are selected for reliable seed-production in cooler climates (lotsa small heads). The heads are good as any but I believe to have read they're poor oozers.

Ofcourse I strongly disreccommend involving yourself with legal hazards as well as addiction/OD risks of poppies.

dutch a1 strain = taz poppys white with a sploch of red in them flowers. they only last 2-3 days befor they wilt off. Not bad for tea and with this strain you get 3-6 head per plant. A nother one to look at is gigs big pod little seed few pods/plant.

the ones at the store bread seed poppy are nigrums. small pod lots of seed very nice flower

And the classic persains whites. very strong .short plant smallish pods
