i finally figured it out...

i started playing around with music on the computer in late '97. It was an obsession everyday for a few years. it was always a blast and i always enjoyed the sounds i was putting together. but it seemed as time went by it started to seem like a lot more work and i was never happy with what i was doing...

this morning after not sleeping and doing a lot of reading followed by some quiet sitting and thinking it came to me... i figured out what changed. i had slowly quit making music for myself. instead i was trying to make music that people would like and accept. stupid me... art is supposed to come from the heart, it should breath your soul. for me it is a representation of something that cannot be controlled. (yet, and oddly enough, it will only do what i tell it to :wink:)

so now i'm making songs again... songs for myself, and i'm having fun.  :smile:

hooray for me!

Ya dude! You HAVE to make music because it makes YOU happy. Because you WANT to do it just for the pure JOY of making music for yourself. Always write your music for yourself first... do it because you have a passion for creating music.. don't do it to make other people happy.. do it for yourself, if other people happen to like it that is just an added bonus :tongue:

This is something I discovered a while ago... write music because it makes you happy, because you want to... because you enjoy doing it. HAVE FUN. That is what makes it good music.

Make music that will address the audience that you are trying to get through too. If you are doing drug music, i would highly suggest doing it while on drugs. Think of where and when, and how your listiners are choosing to listin to your music. If your sober its not gonna sound the same if your high. I dunno little something i figured out. I will always mix down when im high. Figured anyone who listins to my record will be high at the time. So what they are hearing is what im hearing.
