EXPERIMENT A FAILURE!??

on wednesday or thursday (i can't remember), i started my first attempt to grow some stuff. it was very experimental. i don't even know if it made sense. i put soybeans and some other grain on top of dirt with some water in a tupperware and scraped some spores from a print off onto the beans. a few days later (sat or sun), a whitish-gray growth started up and i thought it was either cobweb or mycelium. but today (monday), there's a few spots of blue in the white stuff. i looked through the contam site, but coudln't find anything. HELP ME OUT PLEASE! edit: do you think i could save them ?? is there any way ?

I can relate. I experimented a lot before I followed the directions.

Did you even sterilize your substrate? If not, it is safe to assume your experiment will fail.

Next time try the PF Tek. It works.

There is no sense in playing mad scientist until you have had some success growing.

As for saving your experiment, I don't know. If it is contaminated, you WILL know given enough time.

Most noob's make more than one JAR (Not tupperware unless it is small) so, if one fails, the others still have a chance.

Soy beans? Try brown rice flower and vermiculite first.

Follow the instructions.

Only then will you know if your technique is wrong.

thanks, i just don't want to come in to my house with vermiculite and my parents questioning me. are there any good substitutes?

There's not much you can do now.
Read the faqs about growing with grain substrate.

Penecillium is bluish green. I just grew some on a casing. It had a bright white border of new growth around the edges.

Quite stunning, actually. And very beneficial to humans, but not mushies.

Sorry bout your failure, but heed the advice given above and keep it simple. There are many years of trial and error that you don't have to repeat because of the PF Tek.

And you also might want to think twice about growing shrooms in your parent's house. Very disrespectful and not too cool.
