More Deadly Galerina Mushrooms in Seattle
    #2006560 - 10/13/03 08:55 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Here are several imaes of Galerina autumnalis and Galerina venenata growing side by side in same habitat. Shaggy red shreaded bark mulch.
The darker specimens with the campanulate caps are G/ autumnalis, the flat capped shrooms are Galerina venenata.

Caution:

Do not eat these shrooms and do not handle.

They grow near, in and around and even under P. cyanescens and/or P. stuntzii and as I posted earlier here they look macroscopically similar in some stages of their growth and developement.

I understand why not to eat them....but I'm curios as to the reasons for not handling them.

Weell suppose ho you you grab a few, squeeze them to pull them out of the ground and then maybe rub your eyes with your fingers or clean something from your mouth or teeth after handling them. I think that si a good enough reason not to handle them, but then what do I know. I know I won't handle them.

Same reasons as "Why should I wash my hands after going to the toilet", cause it makes sense.

Whether you wash or do not wah your hands after poing potty is your business.

In Asia they uuse their hands and a water hose to wipe after going to the toilet.

I was just using it as an example mj. At the end of the day in response to smurfy it's just common sense not to touch a "deadly" organism.
