Well, the point to any casing is to furnish the cake with a water supplies. With the DAMP vermiculite on top and bottom the cake now has a place to get its water supplies from. Thus keeping it hydrated.

Do you put the verm. on after the 1st flush?? do you have to steralize it?? does the myceluim have to recover??

For most strains (all except the PF strain) its good to put the verm on on the first flush if your not going to case. But it's more important for the second and third flushes. It's a good idea to sterlize, I do, but some people say there is no need. To be on the safe side, sterlize it in the over on 350 for about 20-30 minutes.

So.. the double ended casing technique is the following?.....

the top layer of vermiculite.. it is the one that will become the bottom layer once you birth that cake?
And the new layer.. whish is the top layer that you add once you have birthed??
