Spawn / straw ratio?

I've searched for a while today and could not find a specific ratio of spawn to straw. AFOF is using BRF cakes and straw and would like to know how many pints vs. straw. Also what would be the reccomended thickness of each straw layer.

This may seem elementary but I just couldn't find the numbers and this is the first attempted straw casing.

Ok I just found that the ratio should be about 1:10 Does that sound right?
I'd still like to know how thick the straw layers should be between layer of spawn.

I'd recommend a higher spawn to straw ratio than that; about 1 to 5 colonizes quickly enough for my impatient friend.  :smirk:  Keep in mind that the thicker you make the straw layers, the longer colonization will take.

Be sure to pack that straw down tightly after spawning.
