best casing layer for spawned straw?
    #2420457 - 03/11/04 08:52 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

based on experiences just wanted to see what recommendations were for the casing layer of spawned straw, my neighbors friend used 60/40 verm coco coir last time and was not happy with the results, he was thinking it could have been too wet. He wants to try something new.

If it seemed too wet, easier to add less water instead of changing formula.

Coir/verm is the way to go. Easiest recipe and good results.

What went wrong exactly with coir?!

.fs.

1 out of the 5 casings actually fruited, the only other thing i could think of that could have been a problem was that he didn't wait until the casing layer was completely colonized before moving it to the fruiting chamber, i'd say the layer was prob. 1/2-2/3's colonized. no contams came along, but they were in the fruiting chamber for about a month and a half with no progress in growth other than the 1.
