to anyone who may be able to answer me is it possible to take a cake and case it with a thick layer of casing then use the layer of casing after it has been completley colonized with mycelium to spawn a straw substrate as to not waste any cakes to spawn straw and just continue to case that same cake to spawn more straw. theoretically speaking of course

so you would be putting casing cake A ...wait for cake to become colonized...remove casing layer from cake A...use casing to spawn straw...placing additional casing on cake A ...wait for cake to become colonized......................................
correct or incorrect?

Yes that is correct. But will you run into contamination problems by constantly stripping and adding a new casing layer to said cake a?

First, I wouldn't advise using a casing to inoculate straw. Casings are not very clean, and more than likely you will run into contam problems.
There is a thread around here that uses spent cakes to inoculate bulk substrate. According to that thread, it worked pretty well.
After casings are spent, there's not much use for them. You might wanna throw em outside and bury em and maybe you'll get some more mushrooms if you're lucky.
Good luck, daba

that might work the first couple times, but the organism will slowly die and the abuse it will be getting on the layer of mycellium directly below the casing will add up and cause some problems, this method is also pretty unsanitary, unless u had a glovebox or somthing...in which case i would just innoculate cardboard from perti dishes...
