Single Mushroom Identification Please.

Hi I found this mushroom growing in my backyard. the top of the cap is brown. the gils and the stem are black. crappy pictures i know but my digi cam sux.... here is another picture. . tell me what species this is and i highly doubt its psycho active. thanks. - Michael

It's the species Icantium Foldirictonias. What a rare find, I havn't seen one of those in at least 12 hours, don't eat it though.

Perhaps you should start by reading the sticky threads at the top of this forum titled "Before you post an ID request, please read this!" and "Newbies: How to identify a mushroom.(Edited)". Dosn't that seem like a logical place to start?

uh, yea those pictures suck. the shape reminds me of a Galerina though although thats just what popped into my mind after the gun shot.

Also something that will help you out is buying a couple of feild guides such as Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora and National Aubon Society feild guide to north american mushrooms. You can pick both of those up off of amazon for 50 some odd dollars and thats with 2 day delivery. Just use the books to try and start iding thos mushrooms then post a description, and what you think it might be and people will be able to help you alot better plus you'll learn alot faster just by trying to id them yourself. Even if you guess is wrong, cause the guys around here usally will tell you why you where wrong on an id. And in no time youll be able to id them yourself and even help other people id there finds.

it appears that the mushroom itself is very old and withered. Those are near impossible to ID with a picture, or anything at all

Thanks Protester and Morrowind... Morrowind I have that game for the xbox. lol it is good. Yea the mushroom was old and nasty. I just have never seen one like that before. Thanks for being nice. Im new to the forums.
