how to remove malware/spyware completely?

So i think my PC has been infected with some virus's and am a bit concerned, as i have random audio files playing the background of my PC with nothing open.

i'm almost certain i've got some kind of infection, so i need to get this stuff cleared asap.

anyone got any ideas on how best to completely remove all malware/spyware/malicious programs from your PC?


i'm thinking i might even just re-install windows, but thats a bit of a bitch to do and am hoping to avoid that if possible.

also, for future internet security, what are some good programs one can run to prevent this kind of thing? i've got ghostery and peerblock running most of the time?

First of all man... you are going to need to be in safe mode. This will remove the virus/malware's ability to stop you from deleting it. Look up some good free antivirus/malware programs like spybot and shit. I'd help you more, but I'm way too tired. You should check out the science&tech and do a search in there, I think someone made an EXCELLENT post that can explain it far better than my tired self.

Get Malwarebytes. They offer a free, very effective utility for removing shitware.

Few things I like to have.:laugh:

Microsoft Security Essentials. Its free and it has saved me a couple times...

CCleaner is a sweet program to help you look over what you have on your computer too. I highly reccomend it. Maybe you can find your issue in your programs. Goodluck!

yep, well i've run combofix, also looking at running spybot and malware bytes to clear out as much as possible. kind of lame.

ill have a search aroudn the forums and try to find the guide your talking about.

Download MALWAREBYTES ANTI MALWARE.

It's COMPLETELY FREE because the creators understand that malware is a bitch and it's their charity to the internet to provide a program like MAM.

So, download, install, run, it'll remove EVERYTHING.

Also, get yourself an anti-virus that has full time virus screening, otherwise you'll be fuckered

i know people will bash this but i like avg and its very easy to crack. just download, when you get to the key, google avg key and there plastered every where. update everything to the latest and scan.

well does the music continue if you turn off the computer?

to get rid of malware run "hijack this" then copy paste the log file into an online "hijack this online scanner" or something like that, it'll tell you which registry stuff to delete.
