Are you mad about Spanish 'invading' the USA?
    #19738045 -

What do you think will happen with the Spanish speakers coming into the USA? Will they continue to speak Spanish? Will they adopt English? Their children? Their children's children? Will the influx continue without end?

Will we eventually end up with Spanglish as a national language? They are moving all around the country now.

El peso me mata.

The parents will continue to speak Spanish. Their kids will speak English. Just like every other wave of immigration.

I live in Texas.. It's something I've been surrounded by my entire life so I'm pretty used to it and don't really give it any thought.

You'd think being surrounded by it my entire life would mean I could speak it but I can't =/.

I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today.
Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear.
I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear.

Well, they maintain their Spanish at a much higher rate than other immigrant groups, especially in population centers that are mostly Latino. Come to Texas. Some areas, like Laredo, maintain Spanish indefinitely; it is almost impossible to differentiate Texas from Mexico. I understand that this is an outlier case but the phenomenon seems to be increasing at a slow rate. You are probably right though, these types of cases will probably remain limited to the border.

I live in Texas as well. My elementary school gave half the day's instruction in Spanish. I ended up getting a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Spanish and am now a Spanish teacher (though I am not Latino). It does not surprise me that you do not speak Spanish though. Everyone who gets a BA is mandated to take a foreign language. 85% of the students take Spanish, and their knowledge/abilities when they begin are close to nothing. It's like they have completely ignored the Latino culture/language. No offense. I'm sure I would have as well if it hadn't been forced upon me.

Not at all. I am, however, mad about the labor abuses to which the undocumented Hispanic population is routinely subject, and that the proposals for immigration reform circulating Congress seem to be overwhelmingly crafted around some "need" to legitimate and normalize these abuses. The fact of the matter is that Mexico is crumbling under a US economic assault; if we are being "invaded" by the Spanish, then Mexico has already been occupied and colonized by Anglo capital.

Texas was Mexico. And, they said the same thing about the Italians in New York and the Chinese in California and the French in New England and the Germans in The Midwest.

Kids should be taught in a foreign language and English. Kids are perfectly capable of being fluent in two languages. It makes them smarter.

Doesn't really bother me much. Its hard if your job involves working with the public, and you get people that don't speak English though. Used to work at a golf course and got a lot of confusion going on from Asian people that didn't know much beyond very simple English.

Being in California I've been surrounded by Spanish for a while, took three years of it. I think it'd be good for parents to actually start teaching their child a second language early on, whatever it may be.

I think by 2050 Spanish will be a de facto national language, and signs and the like will have both English and Spanish.  It's already like that in some places, but I think that'll be more wide-spread.  It's impossible to predict, but demographic trends seem to suggest that by 2100 Spanish-speakers could be a majority in the States, possibly even a sizable majority.

I don't mind at all about having more Latin Americans in the country.  I speak Spanish and I love Latin America.

My body I will give to pleasures,

to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Yea just too many of em.

Most immigrant groups don't have communities all over the country that speak their native tongue and certainly don't have firms offering services in their language.

Only going to get worse

I really dont care if spanish come here, and i live in a highly hispanic area due to my proximity to mexico. if youre trying to come here for a better life and work hard i can respect that.

What I HATE is when criminals come over here to do their criminal shit. If i could round them up and send them all to antarctica i would, along with all the rapists and murderers. Kind of like that Ray Liotta move 'No Escape', but instead of being on an island, theres just a bunch of frozen bodies half eaten by polar bears.
