It really makes a difference to sterilize, you will see less contaminated casings ofcourse, but if you keep your casings in smaller trays and don't sterilize your substrate it works just as good, smaller trays = less chance of contamination, i only put 2-3 cakes per tray, and i don't sterilize often, i have a hepa air filter system running and then put all the ingredients together with the filter running near me.. it's not a must to sterilize your casing mix. later

Just bake dry at 400 for an hour before you add the water.BTW SporeChick I like you kit directions but it should include steralizing the casing. 1st tray I got 1 flush and contams with out steralizing. 2nd tray I steralized and got 6 flushes.

You can use a microwave and get different results, baking is probably a better way

IMHO sterilizing casings negates a good bit of their benefit. IMHO part II- I would not recomend a full casing on your first attempt. Double ended casing ala PF, yes, but not a real casing. Some people do it their first time. I'd been growing cakes for years before I moved on to casing and failed my first 6 times.Grow on cakes your first time growing. (btw did you mean you were casing for the first time, or growing at all for the first time?) ------------------ -From a registered Mad Scientist "From a certain point of view" -Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi (also a Mad Scientist tm)

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
