At the bare minimum get a low profile frame from Ikea.  A mattress on the floor is ghetto.

yea it is cooler, in fact, i'm glad you asked! ever since i learned to think for myself basically since i came out da womb i've always preferred a box spring + mattress directly on the floor, knee high or lower.

your typical americanized-type bed frame is gaudy and takes up more room than is necessary. if it has posts, it's even worse. i suppose low profile bed frames with no posts could be viable.

there's a deeper reason why i go with the floor bed though. the low profile gets you closer to the ground level which you brings you closer to the planetary energy flow and produces more lucid dream states.

in essence the floor bed is much more aligned with proper feng shui, which is why you see buddhist and other eastern mystics commonly sleep on slightly raised mats or mattresses, basically floor beds.

I have been sleeping on a futon on the floor for a few years now. Funny thing is, I've even worked (managed) a furniture/bed store and still didn't get a 'proper' bed setup. :lol:

Two folds and a lift and you can place it in the corner somewhere! Or prop it up halfway against a wall for a little couch. :cool:

Man, you can do all kinds of things with a futon mattress. I even used one as a blanket in the winter once, lol.

I've never minded sleeping on all sorts of strange arrangements. While I like keeping my room relatively classy for the lady-friend, I could get away with all sorts of strange strange room arrangements as a bachelor.

I think it's a pain in the ass having my bed on the ground. I'm poor, that's why. And my roommate has a bed frame for me that he found but he hasn't painted it yet so it's not ready yet.

When I'm super tired, I can't just PLOP onto my bed. It's on the ground, if I plopped onto it, I might hurt myself. Underneath the bed makes for good storage if you can keep it clean under there. It's a good place to put shoes and boxes of stuff.

And bed frames are good for sex. You can use hand cuffs, you can spread your legs and put your feet on the frame (like, if you're the bottom).

well i have one of those wooden bases underneath, but still no metal, or extra space under the bed. don't know if that counts as having a bed frame..
