Doesn't have to be super comfortable, I use a foam topper. I just want something that won't warp or sink down in the center over time.

You can get new ones for $200-$500 depending on how big it is. If you don't mind used ones then you can probably get one really cheap on craigslist.

Depends on how nice you want to go. You can haggle down the price of a mattress to 35% of the tag price usually. I bought the top of the line king size bed at Sleep Country and the box spring, mattress, pillows, sheets, and frame was $1850.

If you're using a memory foam topper (WIN!!) then use inderneath a hard foam matress of a density of 0.4 (a 40 or 400 grade mattress) This vibes really well with the memory foam and will last a very long time.

I got a cali king sealy with cooling gel coils, a 100 dollar tempur pedic " I love my pillow " a mattress cover, the dual box and frame with a 10 year warranty for 1200.
Now my bed is my entire room, but it's the only thing I can fit on comfortably ( I'm 6'6 ".

words cannot express the awesomeness of memory foam/tempur pedic. You'll never want to sleep on a normal matress again. The layer of memory foam should be at least 8cm/3 1/2 inch thick or you wont get the full effect.

I lay on all of the top of the line mattresses at every store and hated every one with a thick layer of memory foam. I opted for the most expensive pocket coil spring mattress and I couldn't be happier.

My bed is a mix of latex and mammary foam. It's the perfect firmness/softness for me. At first it was a little too firm, I was used to an all latex foam bed, but after a few nights I'd never felt better in the AM. Not sweating in the middle of the night is a huge plus too.

You can get a complete bedset, albeit on the cheap end as far as quality is concerned, for $400-600. If you're really not looking for high quality, I'm sure you could get one even cheaper from Ikea.
