Why even bother with car insurance either, chances are you'll (eventually) be able to pay off any liability debts you might incur from collisions. Unless you're a shitty driver or just have bad luck, then you should definitely get it.

so many people do this, in academic sciences to politics and religion. it's just the norm around here... frankly, i don't blame Zappa for having such an extremest point of view, because he's (along with everyone else) continuously bombarded with retorts and proclamations about facetious (alot of the time) arguments and he's either a: sick to death of it and throws up his arms in the slippery slope or b: has to explain what maybe has a bit of truth to it to a bunch of rambling fools, what seems to be over and over and over again while never gaining any ground.

same goes with everyone here. the internet.

I am sure he can take the time to construct a well thought argument.
Just because "other people" do it doesn't change anything. It just means they are ignorant.
As zappa says he is smart, I would expect him to construct arguments that are not riddled with logical fallacies and fear mongering in an attempt to prove his point. It does injustice to his point.

Because I have it and I've moved on to better things. I'm not battling to keep it, Its an acquired perk and its here to stay. I don't make a big deal about it anymore.

see here is the problem with your prognosis.

NO ONE can be completely right about ANYTHING; and with having to argue your positions on things all the fucking time here (whether they are true, faulty, WHATEVER the point is...) one will eventually start finding holes even in their own arguments because they have to keep repeating themselves and RE-ITERATING points constantly to keep up with the "demand"; and if you backtrack and say you made a mistake, you just get judged unfit to make any more arguments.

Just stop. You are rambling without making any sense.
Re-read what you wrote and try to come up with a better answer.

The logical fallacy has been a recurring theme of all arguments in an attempt to fearmonger and change the argument. It's not a one time occurrence. I really have no idea what you are trying to say though.

How the hell am I supposed to know the calorie content of new daily menu items?

As a restauranteur? You'd ask the chef what goes into the new dish, take out a calculator, and come up with a figure.

If you can keep books you can surely accomplish this. If you have passed the sixth grade you can surely accomplish this.

That's not how it works, every different cooking process changes the number of calories.

Have you worked in the industry?

I'd think not, or you would realize how absurd that statement is.

Just a salad can have 20+ ingredients including protein, various lettuce/veg and house-made dressing ingredients.

Try figuring it out for yourself. It isnt easy.

Chefs/cooks already have little to none downtime during a shift. They dont have time to be calculating every little ingredient that goes in to a daily menu/feature.

This would kill the privately owned restaurant market.

But most people think every restaurant is a corporate chain like applebees and shit.

EDIT: As my view, and the few of many chefs, if you dont like the food we serve. Go somewhere else. Nobody is forcing you to eat here.

no, i'm not. i'm telling you why eventual arguments will always have a circular reasoning or slippery slope, and/or an infinite regress. if YOU'D read my post again, maybe more carefully, you'd see that i was using Zappa as an example of this.

That's why it's only for large corporate chains (this law).
Though to get calorie counts they do a calorimetry test - not tabulate the ingredients manually.

No eventually arguments will not have slippery slope fallacies unless the author intentionally puts them in to incite fear mongering to make people think his argument is right. Read up that link on what the slippery slope fallacy is.

Ah, my bad. Didnt see that in Pat's post.

I have no issue with that. Corporate chains have the funds, and more importantly a standardized menu, where something like this could be feasibly implemented.

No its not all that matters. There are so many more aspects of life. Freedom is a great perk, but you seem to emphasize it so fucking much that you are willing to make irrational decisions to keep every single aspect of it imaginable even if it means killing yourself.

Freedom is cool I'll give you that, but no its not everything... You've been drinking the US government's koolaid for too long.

The US government wants to take my freedom.  What the fuck are you talking about?

It is not an irrational decision for a healthy young male to choose not to buy health insurance.  It is irrational for him to do so.  No balls no glory.  A healthy young male's money is far better allocated elsewhere
