A Word for All Who Are Seeking
    #19599532 -

My friends, I come to you as one who has travelled far and sought much, who came from the depths of autism and depression to climb to the most ecstatic revelries of God's beauty. So I want to begin by saying that you are blessed to have a sense of the spiritual. You are on a path to love and showing great goodness to the world.

Here is what I have to say to you, a vision for a spiritual future. First, a search within ourselves to be reconciled to "God," as he is revealed in scripture, but as he also manifests in every truth seeker and in all the plants and psychedelics of his good creation. Not to search out the world's finest dogma or a morally superior set of teachings, but a realization of the truth that pervades the universe. Christ is God, but he passes all praise onwards to God as well, because each of us has God within us and Christ is merely an example. The perfect example, yes, but we too can attain what he attained. "I set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

The next step is to move beyond the boundaries of this simple forum. I rally the spiritual together in a call to faith. Not to boast of our wisdom or to revel in arrogant claims of enlightenment, but to seek in earnest the comfort and goodwill of our fellow men. And this can be done outside of these simple words.

I call upon you, if you have accepted the resonant truth of what I say, in a deep state of prayer with God, to join me in this pursuit as the most admirable of all pursuits.
You doubtless have a calling in your own life. If you are content, then surely you see many ways of living out what I have said. But if you are longing for a next step, then I ask you to rally around my call for a spiritual future wholly reconciled to science and reason.

We are those who have heard wisdom and have been looking for it all our lives. And I want to lead you, my brothers and sisters, into a new future, one in which we develop science and technology and use them in full appreciation of their capacity. I, on behalf only of the things that I have learned, invite you humbly to join me. Together, we can begin a radical new ministry that will pervade the internet. We will strive into the depths where no good things grow, and in power we will declare it a garden. We will plunge into the future boldly and make a difference that is the culmination of everything that the spiritual have learned in all our years of pursuit.

If this seems good to you, then please. I invite you to either talk with all of us here, or me personally. Let us begin to reason and to discern and to feel and to grow.

It is better to be patient than powerful; it is better to have self-control than to conquer a city.

To give a bit of background on myself...

I am nineteen. I come from a Christian English family. My father is honestly one of the most truly good men I can name, always in pursuit of God and doing what is right. My mother is an intensely nurturing, caring woman, who is given to lots of anxiety over those she cares about. Both of these people shaped me in many ways, even as they failed to accept the role of drugs in my life. I still have faith that as I grow in wisdom and in doing good, they will see that I am not given to foolish, youthful risk-taking, but to serious pursuits of wisdom and truth.

I have a sister who is training as a nurse. I also have a long-time girlfriend who I have been planning to marry for many years. When I graduate from college, I do intend to propose and get married to her, unless I am called to not do so. It may well be that I help her to see the same level of truth I have reached and she may be driven to seek spirituality alone, but I believe that we are called together to work in partnership as the finest examples of great lovers.

She and I have been through a great deal. Almost daily we would bicker and fight through emotional ordeals of every kind, many of which had to do with her abusive family and me being away from her for a semester on study abroad. Yet there is so much potential in our futures.

I am studying English, and I want to get a masters in Communication Studies afterwards. I don't fully know the specific calling of my life, but I do know that God will use my education to reveal it to me. In a very general way, I know that I am called to spread truth and love to those who are open to hearing it. To be a friend to the friendless and offer compassion where there had been none. All these things I strive to do as I grow. I will sit with the homeless man and talk with him and pray over him, not as a hollow gesture of platitudes, but with sincere intention to see him prosper as a soul who has been downtrodden and who can be redeemed just as I have been.

This is the sort of love I am here to express. Why are you here, my brothers and sisters, if not to seek the same?

Acts 2
New International Version (NIV)
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[c]
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,[d] put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:

“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[e]
29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”’[f]
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

It's nice that you believe in God and are passionate about seeking him but I dont know what else to say really.

I am a fellow seeker of God but life has been a difficult struggle for me and I now am trying to heal myself through prayer. SOmeday I hope to help others who are struggling.

Try Buddhism, instead of convulsing in churches and speaking in tongues through the holy spirit you could just come to accept that life is a suffering filled shithole and you are impermanant.

Acceptance> mythology.

One love to all my rasta brethren. These too will be redeemed in the most high, because the fruits of the Spirit are all good things. But the Soldiers are ready to go beyond Jamaica and beyond a church and boldly take the world, the internet, and the People by storm.

What do you mean by "try Buddhism"? I have studied Buddhism, in fact I have great respect for Buddhism and I definitely feel as though life is suffering. In fact, we are taught the same thing in Orthodox Christianity, which instructs the spiritual man to live in mourning, thumbing his nose (well, not literally) at the pleasures and riches of this world and giving all for our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.

However, I have felt more drawn to Christian forms of prayer and devotion than Buddhist meditation in terms of my spiritual practice. Is there some specific Buddhist technique you want to promote, because "Buddhism" is a very broad topic and I am not sure exactly how to go about trying it, I mean there are so many different Buddhist teachings and meditation techniques. Out of all Buddhist teachings, simple breath awareness is the technique I find most useful but I already practice that along with the Jesus prayer as part of my life as  a CHristian.

Christianity comes with a higher power and an absolute truth matched by no other philosophy of life. And we have Jesus not merely as a part of God, but an example of what WE can achieve, for we are equal heirs with him when the Spirit fills us.

I agree and that is why I am a Christian. Christianity gave me a whole new understanding of life, which I did NOT get from Buddhism. As I said, I have great respect for Buddhism but I personally feel called to Christianity, Christian prayer and the sacraments.

Prior to converting to Christianity, I used to attend a little Buddhist service each week. A student or occasionally the guru would give a talk about meditation or some Buddhist topic and then we would say some prayers and sometimes they would give us a snack.

It was nice and educational but I just don't feel as though it benefited my spiritual growth in the way that attending Mass and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist does, or going to adoration and sitting in the presence of the blessed sacrament (incredibly powerful spiritual practice for me).

I am sure Buddhists have their own powerful rituals, but being completely satisfied with the sacrament Jesus provided for us, I see no reason to seek elsewhere.

There's truth there, not optimism and "meaning"

Life has no meaning that you don't invent in your imagination. Asking for meaning in a life like ours, so unevolved, is like a conscious bacteria asking what meaning its life holds.

I must wholeheartedly disagree. A life lived without meaning is a life half-lived in the shadows, even if you think you know "truth." There is a reason our brains enable us to receive dreams and visions, altered states of consciousness, and so much more.

Well Hinduism has a personal God (Iswara) as well but I just prefer the Bible. Ramana Maharshi (a great Indian saint whom I have studied extensively) said to his deciples that there was no difference between the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita, meaning he recommended the Bible just as strongly as he recommended the Gita. In fact he said that the Bible provided the best definition of God (I AM THAT I AM) of any holy text ever written. So if there is no difference between them I would rather choose the Holy Bible and Christianity over Hinduism.
