Sex and marriage in Christianity...

It is interesting how a lot of Christian churches say that having sex before THEIR marriage ritual is a sin.

If you look at the history of marriage in the Bible, you will find that marriage has existed in all forms and sizes. And in the begining, in the days of Adam and Even, there was no such thing.
When Adam and Eve felt like having sex, they simply did it, and it was not a sin.

So what is it that binds two people together that makes them adulterers if they sleep with someone else?
It certainly isn't some ceremony in Catholic or any other Church, because such a thing is fairly new, and didn't even exist in time of Jesus, much less in the begining.

Well if you read the Bible, through various translations, the binding thing is the actual act of sex, which is something that makes a hell of a lot more sense than going to church and marrying.

So the "right" thing for a Christian to do is, not wait for sex before he goes to some king-sized building, but wait for sex until he is sure that this is the right person for him to become "one in flesh"..

It is interesting that it is described in the Bible, that if a christian is to sleep with a prostitute, he would become "one in flesh" with her and that would be a "perversion" of fate as it is described, or sin against the whole idea of man and woman joning through sex .
In other words, the magic thing which marries two people is the actual act of sex.
In the Bible, the sex has some kind of magical binding property, making a man and woman "one in flesh" for life.

So, the whole idea of not having sex before marriage is ridiculous, because if you are a christian (that is if you consider Bible to be true) when you have your first sex, you are already "put together by god"...

can you back this up with some scriptures?

the important thing is unconditional love, a hunk (50% or so???) of marriages don't seem to have it all, and then when we look at the ones who stay together, they may just stay together for conveniance sake (which is fine?) or because they think divorces are wrong, but don't like each other (which is not fine?) or other such reasons.

marriage can serve as a great concrete symbol and foundation for the love of two, especially if expressed through the sex act afterwards as a final seal....... but people should not marry JUST to have sex because this really destroys the "sanctity" of marriage.

in actuality these are just ideas, it seems like it would work very well this way, but i have not learned a lot about male/female relations

ha ha I mean... do all the people involved become "one in flesh"?
Lol well leaving that aside, this idea comes from the fundamental rule of Christian churches to make people more controllable and so on... you know, the usual stuff that I'm sure we're all familiar with.

You seem to have a number of misconceptions about the nature of marriage, and of sin in your post. Firstly, adultery was forbidden in the Judaism to which Jesus belonged, if indeed Jesus was a historical character. Secondly, Genesis belongs to the Five Books of Moses - the Torah - and scholarly Jews understand that scriptures must be discerned as to which of four levels of reality the passage should be interpreted:
The literal
The allegorical
The symbolic
The mystical

Interpreting the Adam & Eve story in literal terms is a mistake IMO, and those people who do not understand the ancient Jewish intentions (midrash) but read Biblical passages with modern scientific, journalistic mentalities are likely to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater and reject the Bible as being untrue. What may well be untrue literally/historically may be very true on one or more of the other levels. Only simpleton fundamentalists fail to understand this because they have no discenment, only the concrete literalistic thinking of children with Concrete Operational Thought (J. Piaget) and pre-logical magical thinking.

Marriage, as a 'sacrament in Catholicism,' and in the deeper understanding of Judaism, not to mention in much of Gnostic Christianity (which drew from the mystical depths of Judaism), ritualizes and thus symbolizes a Mystical Union of Love that is an Eternal Reality in the Godhead. Marriage (Holy Matrimony, not secular marriage) attempts to manifest that Holy Union in space-time. Protestant thought, by-and-large, misses most mystical apprehensions of such things, and relegates marriage to part of a social norm for Christians (Social Gospel).

St. Paul did not write all of the letters attributed to his authorship. There are genuine letters in which Paul is egalitarian towards women, and forgeries which reveal a very misogynistic Paul. Considering that there were apparently Temple prostitutes, female and male in Solomon's Temple, some major changes were made by NT times. By that time one was either a maiden a wife or a whore, and whores profaned that which was sacred by Jewish standards. Romans, like Greeks has temple prostitutes, but these were keepers of rituals, not profane street whores which had a completely different social standing - none.

Today, one still has sacred and profane as categories of life. If I buy a call girl, I'm going to have to lie on top of my sneakiness because my Lady does NOT want me to do this. I violate a sacred trust between us, and this trust is what our relationship is built on. It is a relationship of truth, respect and love. It effects our relationship and my individual human development. I would be enslaved to mere sexual desire in my own opinion of myself if I acted thusly, and would be most pathetic in my own eyes, not to mention abysmally stupid for destroying a rare relationship.
