at what point do you need stitches?

How do you decide if you need stitches, Could a half inch gash in the shin call for them?

does it look like the cut will be able to be held together without them?  then you dont need them.

if your skin needs stitches to stay closed, then you probably need stitches.


















take my advice with a grain fo salt, i've never had stitches

Really depends. At the very least superglue that bitch shut. If It wont stay with that then you need stitches.

We use to have some medical glue stuff that was liquid stitches. I had to use it when I cut my thumb open with a pocket knife, worked great

I've always just used regular superglue. Basically the same thing but the hospital is gonna charge you 500 bucks for it.

I guess that would work, idk if there's chemicals or something bad in superglue :shrug2:

I think they are the exact same. I dunno I'm not missing any of the appendages from using regular superglue so that's what I do.

Hmm the placement of it will make it impossible to keep from opening up whenever you walk with just superglue. Yiu might need stitches for that one.

I have gone most of my life without stitches, even when I REALLY needed them. Worst one yet was stepped on a broken bottle or a clam shell (dunno which as it was buried in knee deep mud a foot underwater and I didn't exactly stick around when I felt the slice in my foot) and sliced open my foot on the ball right behind my big toe. About 2 inches long and you could see the bone. I poured hydrogen peroxide on it and closed it with butterfly stitches. Covered with a medical pad (covered in neosporin lol) and wrapped in gauze. My toe is now crooked and points in towards all my other toes (kinda rests on the next toe) but it healed.

Took forever to heal though.

I'm not just stupid, I have a huge phobia of needles because when I was really young I was attacked by a very vicious cat and ended up having to get a ton of stitches all over my head (and ears) with no pain medicine. I decided after that incident, never again and have refused stitches ever since. Have had at least 5 incidents were I definitely "needed them" according to medical standards (like no question about it, if I went in, I'd be getting them). Had several more where it was likely but may not have got them if I went.

Your shin doesn't look as bad as my "likely" ones.
