are there legal ramifications for practicing jury nullification?
    #19527098 -

say for instance i am on jury duty and it happens to be a drug possession case. Could i get in trouble if i were to give a not guilty vote even if the defendant was clearly guilty? Simply because i don't think what he did should be illegal?

I doubt you would get in any trouble, guess we should wait for a lawyers answer on that though.

No.  Nullify all you want.  Expect other jurors to fight you on it, though.

It's legal but you'll likely be replaced if the other jurors don't make you change your mind

You could get in trouble if you lied during voir dire

I know people consider it a duty, but telling the truth during voir dire about favoring jury nullification seems a sure way to get out of jury duty.

I had a female room mate in college that was called to jury for a pornography trial in Urbana. She said it was great fun. They acquitted because they didn't think the porno offended the community standards of a liberal college town.

I avoid jury duty by throwing every summons in the trash.  When they send me a certified letter, signed receipt requested, I'll go.

Would you want me on any jury you appeared before?

I certainly would.  I'd know exactly what buttons to push to get you to vote whatever way I wanted.

Dream on.  I'd already have the verdict before I listened to a word of your bullshit.  You would be as irrelevant in court as you are here.

Delusions of grandeur.  From what I recall there are actually other lawyers who are probably better than you making counter arguments.

At what point in our interactions have you ever thought you led me to a conclusion I would not have otherwise held.  This should be good.

There are probably better trial lawyers than me, but I haven't faced one in court yet.  When I do, I'll let you know.

Like I said.  Delusions of grandeur.

I know that members of activist groups have gotten into some pretty serious trouble for handing out pamphlets about jury nullification to jurors outside a court building. "Tampering with the jury" or something on that order.

Delusions of grandeur is right. Seems to be out of a job right now. It had nothing to do with his misconduct of course.

Q: If you are stranded on a desert island with Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and a lawyer, and you have a gun with only two bullets, what do you do?
A: Shoot the lawyer twice.

Q: What do you have when a lawyer is buried up to his neck in sand?
A: Not enough sand.

Q: Why are there so many lawyers in the U.S.?
A: Because St. Patrick chased the snakes out of Ireland.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)
