That's pretty fucked up. In a sense I agree with capitol punishment but that's just torture, and morally reprehensible.

The punishment should fit the crime, and I would be quite comfortable living knowing those would be my consequences.

"The punishment should fit the crime" is probably the most ambiguous argument for capital punishment I've ever seen.

Chopping off people's hands for stealing and genitalia for raping seem to fit.

Should we have locked Ariel Castro in a basement and raped him for 20 years?

Or are we somehow morally superior to the most deranged people on the planet?

That's not punishment to fit the crime, that's excess, and has little to do with the crime.

This isn't the dark ages.

Okay fill us in on how they got information on the most secretive guy in the world canada.

Certainly not from torturing the fuck out of his best friends, right....

Pick up a newspaper, and read about it. If they tortured people to find out where he lived, why weren't they sure he lived there. They followed osama's courier back to the house.

If news papers are still writing about shit that happened that ago (is that 2 years now?) no wonder why they are going out of business.

Its cute how in one like you talk about 1984 and the big bad government is always lying then in the next line you take their story for what happened word for word.

"Look what you made me do, by not giving me a gun I had to kill him with a screwdriver."

Thats what you're saying. They refuse to supply a weapon to a murderer and you blame them for the murderer killing its victims less humanely.

There's a huge difference. The state is going to kill these people regardless of the methods involved. Selling or not selling them pentobarbital will not change the outcome. I'm not blaming other countries for the execution, I'm blaming them for the suffering caused by their refusal to provide pentobarbital.

If the state came to you and said it was either going to torture someone to death, or you yourself can manufacture and provide pentobarbital for it to use, you're saying "go ahead and torture him, I won't help you." That's insane reasoning because the state doesn't care either way. The only one affected is the person being executed who you have no compassion for despite claiming to be caring about.

This exposes the fact that you don't really care about the person being executed because if you did you would give him pentobarbital so that he didn't have to suffer.

Let's take this argument to it's ultimate extreme. Let's say the Nazis came to you and said they were either going to torture the jews to death mercilessly, or you could provide them with pentobarbital. You're saying "go ahead and torture the jews, I won't help you." But again, you're not stopping the Nazis from executing the jews, the only people who you're affecting with your decision are the people being executed. You could have helped those people to not suffer, but instead you'd rather see them tortured than help them.

You're not guilty of the execution, but if someone asks you to make that execution quick and painless and you refuse, then you have to face the fact that you had the ability to help the person being executed and refused.

You claim to care about the suffering of the executed, but when given a chance to ease that suffering you refuse.

I wouldn't do anything. You become complicit if you choose to do anything.

I guess to you missed the part where a number of states have halted executions until they sort out the drug supply issue. So it is working.

This is a good question. I would say do not provide anything. Providing the drug would have been a war crime.

That line of thinking is retarded. No-ones forcing anyone to do anything. Your governments decision to carry out inhumane executions because other countries refuse to sell them the necessary agents is only a reflection on themselves. When did others peoples actions start to extend to non involved parties? Under the premise of a threat no less.

You become complicit if you refuse to participate, that's the thing. By refusing to help, you increase suffering.

It's like that moral dilemma where you have a train going toward a bridge that's out. On the other track there's a man who doesn't see the train coming. If you do nothing, the train goes over the bridge, if you flip the switch, the train kills the man but doesn't go over the bridge. By doing nothing you participate in the deaths of the people aboard the train, and if you do something then you participate in the death of the man on the tracks.

In your example, acting is immoral because you are assisting in an immoral act. Not assisting someone act immorally is the more moral choice.

nooneman, I respect you, like you, am usually in line with your point of view but in this you have a completely distorted viewpoint.

If the united states government wants to poison people, supplying them with the poison makes you a part of the crime. It is the same thing as selling nerve gas to Iran. You know that the poison will be used unlawfully in the murdering of people.

You may think "but the executions are legal".

Not in the jurisdiction of the nations where the companies reside that are to supply the poison. Not in any first world country but America. Maybe you can order it in North Korea, a nation in line with your policy of killing unwanted citizens.

And even if its legal, drug companies may have moral objections. Killing inmates is not euthanasia, and not in the inmate's best interest.

The owner of the German company Tesch & Stabenow, mr Bruno Tesch, had no such reservations. He knew what the Nazis were doing in the camps and saw an emerging market for his company's Zyklon B product. He suggested its use in gassing Jews and supplied special "concentration camp grade" Zyklon B that did not have its usual teargas-like warning substance mixeed in, so that it was more suitable for gassing people.

After the war mr Tesch was caught and convicted of being one of the accomplices and enablers of the holocaust.  He was hanged, by the way by the same man I quoted earlier as having committed 435 executions and stating he felt he has not prevented a single murder by the executions he carried out.

Foreign drug companies do not want to be part of the American citizen extermination program. Its a big step for a company if their drugs are used for euthanasia, but its a WAY bigger step to directly deliver their drug for the purpose of a rogue nation's law enforcement murdering people. They wouldnt do it for Iran and they won't do it for you, and that's the decent, moral, ethical thing to do. Its also good PR for your company which is located in a nation where only political extremists are in favor of the death penalty.

doesn't the "lungs gasping for air because of illusion of suffocating" for 15 minutes constitute as a bad trip? Plus he probably couldn't talk while he was suffocating to describe the extreme anguish he was in. I don't know you are probably right he was probably all like

:shockandawe:  :feelsdopeman: awwwwwww yeeaaaahhhhhh

the last 15 minutes, after all this is the shroomery

I have overdosed on opiates several times and when one is overdosing one does not sense that one is dying. One merely feels good and drifts off into nothingness, until the dreaded naloxone push. FUCK. THE. NALOXONE. PUSH. ENDLESS, UNBEARABLE, INDESCRIBABLE, FIELDS OF ANGUISH OVER EVERY PORTION OF YOUR BODY. It is like every bit of pleasure has been vacuumed out of your body and all you are left with is pain. pain pain. pain. pain. and then the weirdest sensations come over you as the naloxone wears off. you feel intermixed feelings of agony and bliss ass the naloxone and the heroin/oxycontin/whatever battle for your receptor space. then you gradually drift back off into blissful nothingness... and then BAM PUSH PAIN AGONY TERROR TERROR TERROR WILL THIS EVER END? WHERE AM I? WHAT IS HAPPENING? PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN

overdosing on opiates is extremely pleasant. it may not look pleasant to the people around you, but the person who is overdosing experiences nothing but bliss.

QFT.  Said the same thing earlier in this thread, but people just glossed over it, I guess.  Although one time excessive opiates did make me rather aggressive upon waking up from my OD, from what I'm told after my black-out.  :ashamed:
