It is a pretty good certification to have... an entire semester and college credit to boot? The only thing I don't like about the A+ stuff in general is they concentrate a lot on the PC/Micro$oft side of things...

I don't know anything about Network + but I'm taking the CISCO Networking Certificate course right now.

I've taken the cisco, and currently taking a  (hardware this semester, software next).

>The only thing I don't like about the A  stuff in general is they concentrate a lot on the PC/Micro$oft side of things...

I'm sorely disappointed in most of my CIS classes, granted these are all the first semester basics but I'm in an OS class that covers windows, UNIX, and mac.  The teacher only assigns windows homework, only does the windows lectures and kinda mixes *nix and max into a 5 minute lecture while the rest takes up 2 hours.. something else that pisses me off while I'm on a rant is shes the type of person whos STILL using 9/11 in an example for everything.. its horrible, when she explains some kind of security measure she includes the word terrorists, i truly feel sorry for these type of people..

Like I've said i took the cisco but, never had the money to take the two cisco ccna tests (256$ each) when i finished the class, now i gotta try to find a cisco IOS emulator (I've been looking for over a year if anyone comes across one let me know btw) or a couple routers to play with... for only a grand you can get all the equipment and books to run that class, if i had a job id definitely be saving to buy it..

From looking around at my peers and reading job description requirements.. I'm already well ahead of most assistant admins.. in fact i did phone support at an ISP and after getting board with that was inches from officially moving to assistant-admin and getting paid appropriately instead of doing the stuff for free, but they ended up getting bought out over-night (it was the oddest thing, there was no news of them being interested in selling, or anyone interested in buying, it was almost like they lost it in a late night poker match) so i had to move on...

I got A+ about 6-7 years ago. It's pretty easy.

It was still windows 3.1 when I did it.

I don't think you need any formal training for A+. If you allready have a strong interest with computers, you should be able to pass the test just by reading books and experimenting yourself. Then again,if formal training is how you learn best,go for it. You should build your own computer if you haven't already done so-it'll teach you a lot of practical knowledge.

I the only bad thing about A+ is that computers are getting so cheap, people are just buying new stuff instead of getting them maintained. You really need to focus on that networking stuff. That's what's going to be in demand the next few years.

It's not exactly the most up to date certification. It still had 3.1 up until like two years ago.

Yeah,I think that happened just a few months ago...

Anyways, the OS stuff on it is pretty damn easy from what I remember.
