Hey, I run XP on my laptop, and I recently got a wifi card. A couple different time's I've found open networks with the 'windows wireless network' thing. But everytime I try to connect, I can't. They have all been unsecured.
How am i suppose to connect?

it comes with help files but it's pretty straight foward.

the card will seek out and connect no need to change channels... they may be filtering mac addresses... You can see the network just can't enter it... I think,, sounds logical.. never tried it myself...

why?
2 points: linksys = cisco ... boycotting = more or less futile Linksysco uses linux-based flashable firmware. Undeniably cool if you've ever used one hacked for a specific purpose.

Some cards cannot run on all channels as well. And they may have the access point set to allow connections from only certian MAC Adresses. (This is how mine is setup)

Hey, whas up, I guess I found the place, everybody here seems to know what they doing. just so happened my laptop is all like doing this stuff, and I did'nt even know it could do it. One day it just let me know, hey there are wireless connections here. and I was like, well maybe I am getting free internet from some kind of wifi cafe nearby. I have a gprs modem, that is completely unlocked, a rare piece of chinese equipment. And I got xp, and I chose to connect to linksys, instead of the other guys, one was password protected, that was the one with the best signal. Now with this linksys, I am getting faster than 56 k, so I'm stoked. I hav'nt tried any of the others though. Could anyone shed a little light for me??

well, basically I wanted to know what linksys is? I connected to linksys in a different place, and I was getting great connection speed occasionally . and it was unsecured, and my card automatically connects. Here I am in a different place, and linksys is secured for password entry. I guess for your first question here. you should get a new card like mine. I am connecting everywhere I go. It seems as fast as cable speed too. But it does fluctuate alot.

Linksys is a company that makes networking products. The linksys your connecting to is random networks that people, or by default, are named "linksys"....
I've got good cards, so it's not a question of that...I should really just install linux so I can run airsnort.
