Was it really contams, or was it somthing else that was on your shoes??
Please don't take this as a question of your judgement, I just didn't know that any contams were phosphorescent. Please explain more as you learn more. This sounds interesting.

The splotches were very bright in their centers and dimmer closer to the edges. The ground was "dry", so it wasn't like a liquid was spreading. The splotches were in an area of about 2 feet or so. It's the fact that I didn't notice a 2 feet of bright orange 6 hours earlier that leads me to believe it's a growing life form. The splotches were almost perfectly circular (except for where they touched), not literal footprints or tracks.

That's really all the data I have on it right now. I checked the muffins (moved them away from the site), nuked the site, nuked the air, and sealed the room... I don't plan to do another check until this afternoon.

Can you get any pic's? I don't know how it would turn out in the black light, but it is worth a try. This has struck my curiosity. I need to take my black light over to my buddys and try this.

By the way, what do you mean by "nuking" the area. I assume you sterilized it somehow, but how?

Since it's outside the box, I sprayed it with a 10% bleach solution. I'd like to scrub it down but I'm afraid that might make it airborne. The muffins are baking pretty fast, they're sitting on electric heat rocks (meant for reptilian pets... easy way to keep them at 80 degrees). I think most of them will be done in a few days anyway, so I'm just gonna wait it out.
If I can get my hands on a digital camera I'll get some pics.

The_iMJ,
I'm happy that you brought this up...I know a few resturaunt owners, and awhile ago, one of them was telling me that health inspectors will use a black light to look for rat droppings in large containers (such as sugar, wheat, etc).

Point is, they might use them to find mold, and other contams...maybe? I'm going to go find out:-)

this is really cool idea, and I hope this gets explored. Muffins? Can I have one?

I like the idea! Maybe someone doing agar work could get a few types of contams isolated to make research easier. Just a suggestion.

-Good day, all.
