    #1872933 - 09/01/03 11:17 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

should I spend $75 bucks to see the dali lama give a speech and hold a prayer this sunday?

I've read two of his books and enjoyed them....

I would definitely check it out.

The Dali Lama is awesome. If you've read two of his books and enjoyed them, then I imagine you'll be a better judge than I of whether or not you should go.

But I would!

That sounds pretty cool  I'm sure he'll have some similarly-enjoyable stuff to say that's not in his books

Definitely go. I went to one of his speeches once. The man is incredibly wise.

Ask the Lama why you have to pay $75 to worship him.

It's not to worship him. It's to listen to him speak. And besides, most of the money probably goes to the venue owners.

perhaps, $75 is a paltry sum to pay for a bhuddist, but is an outrageous
sum to ask of one

Hehe, very funny, man.

I'd probably check it out if I was in the area and had free money, just to hear him... then again, I would probably just search for a videotape of it on WinMX..
Peace.

Yeah, thats my main problem. I don't mind paying a few bucks to get in but I think that 75 is approaching the whore level.

especially because most of the people likely to go in this area are poor ass college students.

I couldnt imagine why a venue would need to charge 75 dollars...obviously someone is raping the consumer's asshole pretty hard somewhere along the line. I mean, it costs 75 bucks to go to lollapalooza and it costs a thousand times more to set that up than it does to set up an auditorium for a man to give a lecture...

Go, for sure. The Dalai Lama does not lead a scam religion. Your $75 will go to expenses and to the Free Tibet fund. Money well spent.

Yes, a lot of the money will likely go to the venue and the ticketmaster whores you buy the tickets from... but a lot of it will probably go to some very good causes, the Dalai Lama would make sure of that.

It's not like he's going to take the money for himself and buy a new sportscar

$75 is pretty steep, but if you have the cash why not? its not everyday that hes around indiana! I'm going to see if he's coming anywhere near me infact. Regarding the above post; and thats one of the differences between the dali lama, reaching true buddahood, and that/those fakes who just "Steal" your money.

I also concur that you should go to this event.
In the first place the Dalai Lama is one of the most important figure in buddhism today. Secondly Tenzin Gyatso will be the last incarnation of the Dalai Lama, he stated that he would not come back because Tibet does not exist anymore.

And his speech can also help you make some very interesting and profound thinking.

Edit: I had some errors.

He's not coming back because there isn't a Tibet?

Sounds like the guy is too attached to having a free country, it seems that he is abandoning all hope of having a free Tibet if he is deciding not to come back..

I mean, where is the fight for Tibet if he decides not to come back? I guess it is nice of him to abandon us and not help with our spiritual development..
Peace.

Actualy he comes to Indiana quite often. His older brother lives in Bloomington. He usually comes to IU about once or twice a year and lectures. I saw him 3 or 4 years ago. The price wasn't anywere near 75 bucks though.
