My buddy Pedro...
    #1866021 - 08/30/03 02:40 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

So, my San Pedro has recently been transplanted from a pot into my catus garden, and has put on a lot of growth, but now is taking a slightly yellowish hue...

It gets watered by a drip system at about 4 every morning, along with the other cacti in the garden...it gets full sun for most of the day, its been about 85-90 degrees, so it seems like it should be great condition...any ideas as to how i can make my friend here healthy?
Thanks all, and on another note, i have peyote seeds germinating, if you have any tips in that department, please enlighten me!

Try watering it less.

No you should water it like 2-3 times a week during growing season, if your soil has good drainage. Also make sure the soil is nice and basic by adding some crushed limestone, preferable dolmitic limestone.

for good growth i watter my outdoor pachanoi once every two weeks and once a week during the growth cycle. this is in the interest of growth and appearance rather than alkaloid propduction. for better alkaloid production i'd watter less. for ferts and soil ph i use a ph baanced low nitrogen cactus fert every other watering exept during the cold months. in my area t dosen't get so cold as to need to cease watering.

My guess is that your pachanoi had to much of a shock. Did it come from inside, and than placed outside in full sunlight without letting it get used to it's new conditions slowly?

The yellow was probably not caused by water- if I overwater mine then turn a deep unhealthy green and eventually they will brown- more likely Funkey has the right idea with differences in light exposure. Definately water less though- regardless- other than doing that I would not fert. the plant for a long time (two months after a transplant) and wait it out- they are heartieer than you would think.

Which part are you most concerned about that large yellow spot near the base?

it was the largest yellow spot.. i wasn't saying that you should be worried.

Are the lighter and yellow spots soft or hard?
