bacterial infection on store bought prints

Are store bought mushrooms clean enough to get a print good enough for agar isolation?

It depends how old they are. There is a pretty good chance. I would by the best, plastic sealed mushrooms that you can.

Listen! Do you smell something?

This thread talks about cloning fresh mushrooms in karo syrup, water & hydrogen peroxide. Maybe it will be helpful.

I'm not really interesting in cloning a store bought fruit - I want to isolate my own strain.

Yes, you can get clean isolate's from store
bought mushroom spores. But Ro is right, you want
to get the freshes you can. Then you need to rehydrate
them a little by wetting the outer cap.
I have done pysters like this.

Good luck, what species were you thinking of?

I was planning on isolating whatever I could get my hands on. Shiitake, portobello, oyster are locally available. However, recently I have gotten a hold of things through the shroomery. I have promised for me shiitake prints and culture. I have also traded for a Lion's mane plate.
