I am hoping you are sincere in asking for an answer.

We have five senses. Sound and smell and vibration are sometimes involved.

People respond to motion. If you whip your head around suddenly, people will detect that and stare. Then you can confirm to yourself that you were being stared at even though it is a false conclusion.

Scanning. If you scan a hundred faces in a crowd one may happen to be looking in your direction.

Situations. If you are in a dangerous or sketchy area, you are bound to be more aware of people looking in your direction.


Bottom line (no link - do a search) people tested in a sound proof room with their backs to potential starers were unable to detect when being looked at.

The end.

Ha ha, what? A feeling is not a fact. This study shows people believe in things not in evidence probably due to ancient fears of predators.

This certainly makes the case AGAINST any paranormal sense in this regard.

Of course. I have seemingly felt people staring at me before so I was curious as to how it works. I know it's not true because I've stared at people my whole life without them noticing. And because I've been spied on without knowing.

Does the guy claiming it's true have a theory as to why? I mean, does he claim that vision puts off some kind of energy that is detectable by humans?

I have not stayed current on his fantasy hypothesis, but being stared at is also largely confirmation bias; i.e. forgetting the thousand times you thought you were, but weren't and the one time you were right. This single psychological flaw accounts for many 'paranormal' events.

Rupert Sheldrake may not be in his prime but he certainly shouldn't have his pHD removed because you don't agree with him. :lol:

Yea I know all about that. I've had friends get caught up in the whole number thing where every time he saw a specific number he thought it was a sign, but he conveniently overlooked all the other numbers he saw throughout the day.

It is not a matter of agreement. Why is this difficult for you? His tests are shoddy and biased to support his hypothesis. In 30 years no one has been able to duplicate them because they are flawed in theory and in practice. Should he get a Nobel Prize for Bullshit?

Rupert Sheldrakes TEDtalk was banned. In a time of backwards dogmatic scientism, this is to be expected, considering (from my little knowledge of his work) he does not follow the dogma.
From my little bit of reading, he says that reality holds memory in morphic fields or some such and there are informational patterns and a communication between consciousness and reality. Sort of like Carl Jung and his theories about the collective unconscious and archetypes.

Where did he not follow the scientific method?

Interesting, as I was trying to work out a theory for saying much the same thing. Only I was going to say there is probably an imprint of consciousness of sorts on all matter. That all consciousness leaves something like an imprint on matter, a memory of sorts, and this memory is accessible by all, since we are matter and we are consciousness, after-all.
