Edward Snowden
    #18443197 -

What scares me the most is that the public isn't going to listen to him or is going to be manipulated by our media.

If you haven't seen the video take a look, it pretty much conforms to the nutty beliefs that the government is watching you lol but they actually are. It's shit like this that makes me want to get the fuck out of here and go to Canada.

Whoever hasn't seen this take a look now and spread the word. Everybody must see this for it to make any effect on the public.

Yeah that's some crazy shit. I don't really know enough about it to have a real informed opinion, but it seems like there's some alarming things coming to light these days.

this is nearly half a month old

While I do agree it is interesting to find out that they have been recording all calls, logging all text messages and attempting to save every part of the internet during the time it is available, I bet we are still decades away from being able to analyze all of it or even be able to sift through the information. THAT IS SO MUCH DATA! Despite the 2.5 million employed in the US by Intelligence agencies and their contractors (let's say they could even match it with another 2.5 million people), I still am highly skeptical of their thoroughness in addressing this large amount of data. There are higher priority targets like child molesters and domestic terrorists to be worried about being targeted, but it is very alarming knowing they have the data. Will they attempt to prosecute the 60 million Americans smoking weed in non medical states in 20 years? Who knows. Let's wait some more and find out what they will do next.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.  100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube alone every minute.  There is more than enough processing power available to analyze EVERYTHING.

I always assumed it was common knowledge that the government was listening in and recording our calls and other information. Back in my weed days I remember avoiding directly saying anything having to do with weed over the phone. This is interesting stuff nonetheless.

DO NOT confuse data streams with data analysis.

Those are two totally different things.

I have nothing confused.  Every video that is uploaded to YouTube is analyzed for inappropriate content, as well as transcoded and indexed.  That is analysis - obviously there are different complexities of different analysis that require different amounts of processing power, but some basic analysis can absolutely be performed.

Okay... So they can analyze it. Now, the next feat will be them addressing every "flagged" word.

The thing is technology grows rapidly and it already has done so in the past ten years. I'm sure by now they could easily analyze all of this stuff with the processing capabilities. As a society we must address this and realize that it's only going to get worse. People need to wake up from this mess because it's only going to get worse. It's shit like this that makes me want to go to canada but with what money or what job?

I don't understand what refuge you find in Canada or anywhere else than America. Are you being threatened? Are you being harassed? Is your daily life being deterred due to your information being recorded?

Probably not. I'm not sure why you keep talking about leaving to Canada as though it is going to save you from something.

If you think the analysis is so basic as to just catching "flagged" words you are sorely mistaken.  Think of how well Google can relate pages together based on content and patterns.  There is a LOT that can be done.

Not so much analyzing data, its when they have a target they can go back and look at who is involved who they know and talk to, basically get a fairly good profile on web searches and whatever else they can log. Currently this info will not be able to be used in court, but it can be used to further investigations on a target.

but for a little fun on the subject that is so serious to some, myself included, you gotta laugh at this

Isn't this the same attitudes and platitudes expletive exuded in the 1930's when the subject of a socialist Germany came up in conversation: conversations about Adolph Hitler and the "limited emergency powers" he was taking to "fix the problems facing Germany".  He would return things to a democratic republic just as soon as the emergency ended.

This is the creepiest thing I have seen in my 51 years on this dusty little orb.

You mean like the IRS, Tea party and conservatives? or that ABC reporter? Not to mention Islamic mosques are exempt from the snooping.

The NSA needs to take all their snoop gear and turn it on the government buildings of Congress and the President in Washington.  That's where all the danger and threat to the United States way of life can be found.  :smirk:

What I find most disturbing is how they outsource this shit, from what I understand Snowden wasn't even a government employee just some guy from some powerful firm that does this shit. Outsourced government intelligence gathering on millions of Americans. Fucked up. Fuck that.
