Designing an At-Home Workout Routine
    #18308824 -

So I've had a gym membership for a while now and I'm just now starting to get back into going regularly again. I usually go around and do a few sets on each strength training machine for the particular muscle groups I'm working out that day. I usually do arms one day, then legs the next, and then do 30 minutes of cardio.

But some days I just don't feel like going to the gym, especially when it is my off day and I'm at home, because the gym is nearly a 30 minute drive from my house.

So I went and bought a yoga mat and some dumbbells, but honestly I have no clue where to start. I'm trying to design an at-home workout routine that I can do in 30 minutes to an hour that will work all or most of my muscles, while at the same time incorporating cardio into the workout as well. The only equipment I have is the yoga mat and the dumbbells right now and I don't really want to invest in anything else until I'm sure this is something I want to stick with.

I've been looking up all this stuff about designing your own workout but I'm a noob to this. I have an idea of some of the exercises I would like to do but I am starting to get overwhelmed reading about sets and repetitions and circuits and all this other shit because I have no clue how to put it all together. I've already wasted a day just reading and I still feel like I'm in the same place I was yesterday as far as making progress with coming up with a routine. I know I am over-complicating this.

So far I have:

jumping jacks
mountain climbers
glute bridges
squats
crunches
plank & side plank
pushups
leg lifts

But as far as putting it all together I am at a loss. Do I go down the list doing so many reps of each exercise, then go through the list a few more times? Should I do the exercises in a particular order? Should I be adding more sections of jumping jacks and mountain climbers throughout the routine to keep my heart rate up? I feel like I could be adding so much more exercises to this list too, this is just what I have found so far in my research that seemed appealing to me. I feel embarrassed to admit this, but I honestly haven't done any of these kinds of exercises since high school and I was one of the ones in high school who dreaded PE. I'm just now getting to the point where fitness is something that is important to me and I feel totally lost in a sea of so much information.

So yeah, TL;DR: Help me design a beginner-level 30-60min at-home workout routine with minimal equipment. I want it to incorporate cardio as well as strength-training. And feel free to add more exercises to what I have listed. That list is basically just a starting point for me.

Beats and waves will take me to my grave and when I go there I know that I won't be alone 'cause I've been spotted, blotted, many many times before.

I am interested in the same sort of thing, but am limited by the size of my place and height of the ceilings.

I think you can acheive very good results with kettlebell, pushups, chin ups, burpee's, and leg lifts. The body weight exercises you mentioned are also very good.

Kettlebells really kick your ass and exhaust both your cardio and muscles.

I have some Jillian Michael videos that ill skim through to get ideas of what to do at home. She has a lot of great ideas for different movements and all you need is weights and a chair.

I use the gym though so I don't have much advice, sorry!
