I've always wanted to play D&D but I never have. I love fantasy stuff. I have some friends of a friend who play, I might try to join them for a game.

I was thinking of learning this summer to play with a few friends and my younger cousins. How steep is the learning curve? Can an 8 year old play? Is there a basic box set for purchase? How does this work?

Kids tend to pick up games quickly so I think an 8 year old could play just fine and the learning curve isn't bad. I'm sure there are kits and stuff but the few times I've played everything was done from scratch without too much hassle.
