Any Dungeons and Dragons nerds here?

I turned on a Starcraft 2 stream I typically watch this evening, except the people on stream aren't playing SC2.  I think its D&D.  No idea though, i never played it.

From the context clues in the chat/stream it seems like they've been going at it for like 5 hours.

I used to play back in the land of high school. I wasn't very good but I enjoyed being able to exercise my imagination. I had a friend who was a power gamer and he killed everything. I was kind of just along for the ride. I tried to DM once. I was good at world building and creating quests with stories. I failed at DMing though because the players never did what I assumed they would do. I didn't like trying to improvise. It felt too out of my control and I couldn't handle it.

I'm such a complete nub about this shit, i dont even know the basics.




So the DM is like the "computer" equivalent, who the players are playing against?  He sets the storyline and shit like that? 


I should probably just wiki it tomorrow at work.








Seems like it could be fun if you're playing, but pretty boring to watch (despite the 5,000 viewers on the stream right now)

I went to the bar last month and woke up in a dungeons and dragons tee-shirt.

I have no idea where it came from. Apparently, I was wandering around and trading shirts with strangers :shrug:

More or less. The DM is basically god. I wouldn't say that the players are playing against him/her because he/she could just say "A fireball appears from no where and destroys all of you." But then the players wouldn't have fun and would go home and there would be no game. It's more like he/she is there to present them quests/challenges. He/she inhabits the npc's and monsters.

It looks a lot like D&D. You just got me sucked into watching that for a few minutes, haha.

I played D&D a bit when I was kid but I was way more interested in Magic the Gathering.

Man I had all the books and a ton of dice and graph paper. :laugh2:. We would stay up all night playing in High School. We got smart and started making copies of profile forms. A whole bunch of jocks playing D&D.
