Spoiler alert.
So today i went to that new Hanibal Lector movie Red Dragon.
I thought it was pretty good but I'm a little confused about the climax. When the crazy fuck has the blind chick in his house and starts that fire, he is saying things like "He's upstairs, i can't let him have you. I'll take you with me". Then he waves the shotgun around at himself and the chick threatening a murder suicide.
why would he say those things and seemingly go through such a trying personal dilema (being torn between loving the blind chick and becoming the dragon) just to convince the blind chick that he had killed himself. I understand that he needed her to tell the police that so that Edward Nortons character would go back home, but why does he care so much about killing Ed's character? He doesnt have anything to prove to Hannibal. His motive throughout the movie was to become the dragon, not to kill ed's character (for either himself or Hannibal)
is it just me or is that a plot hole? If i'm missing something, please...

I think it had to do with the fact that he thought she told Edward nortons character that he was this killer and thats how he found him. But the dragon had a few reasons for wanted to kill ed, one he was trying to catch him and stop him, he also made the news paper guy write those lies about him.
But the dragon also admired hannibal and wanted to be like him so it would only be natural that he try and kill the man who caught hannibal

So like, is this exactly the same as manhunter?

I've heard of manhunter.
It is supposedly the first Hannibal movie. But it isn't what's his name as Lector.
Hmmm. I should rent it. I know Blockbuster has it.
Does it sound like the same movie?
I agree with Lector. Lector is the best part of the series. I could have seen more of him in the movie.
Also, they didn't go into the Red Dragon enough. What it was all about, and why this guy thought he was him and all that shit.
But it was entertaining enough.
I think the dragon had plenty of reason to want to kill Ed Norton's character by the end of the movie.

Red Dragon was written before Silence of the Lambs. A movie was made from it in 1986 by Michael Mann of Miami Vice fame. It was an excellent movie, and pretty faithful to the book. In both the book, and the movie, Hannibal Lector's part was pretty small.
After the success of Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, the movie industry thought it was a good idea to do a remake of Manhunter, expanding Hannibal Lector's role to cash in on the Hannibal craze.
I haven't yet seen Red Dragon, but if it's even half as good as Manhunter, I would say it's worth seeing. I wasn't a big fan of Miami Vice, but Michael Mann did a great job on the movie.
