    #5372870 - 03/06/06 11:28 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Hey old friends, i hope you have been well.  Guess where i just got back from...
Bob Marleys home...

Jamaican view

Some agriculture on the island..

One of many many sunsets!

Lost in the glades..

Picture says it all here..

I'll give the rundown on the whole vacation start to finish next day or 2 with a rundown of everything from security to the people and as many pics i can load up.  Till then...
No problem...

HERE WE GO !!!!

Well we started out heading towards Chicago O'Hare airport which was a long toll filled boring 4 hour drive.  Security at O'Hare was IMO very relaxed, i seen noone get even patted down let along searched here.  Though we made sure to have nothing on us that could get us into trouble including lighters ect.. lost 3 lighters on the way in, shoulda left em in the car ( wasn't thinking), but was pretty quick though.  3 hours later we landed in Ft. Myers Fl where we had friends living and stayed with for a few days.  There we partied with old friends and managed to score a bit of bud to get us thru the few days there. The sunsets on the west side of Florida are spectacular.  We opted to rent a car so we could drive over to Miami.  So i'll insert pics of Ft Myers beach and some others under here...

(I call this one lonely girl on beach, walked with her awhile and chatted while we looked for sea shells.

Another fabulous sunset looking out at the Gulf.

From Ft Myers we headed East across gator highway towards Miami with a run down H27 (i think it was 27) which is right through the everglades.

glades are boring, not much but dead things.

Once in Miami we headed for Miami beach and South beach though after getting so many pics on north Miami beach the battery was dead before South beach, so no pics of south beach, only north Miami beach area.  My friend and his GF and i walked along picking up shells for his kids to sort through when we got back.  We were limited on time here so only about 6 hours or so on Miami beach.  From here we droped off the car and got a taxi to Miami port to catch our Carnival Victory ship to head out.

North Miami beach area.

As we get out of our taxi we give our luggage to the nice folks working for carnival and walk into the building leading up to the ship.  Here is where you get your sail and sign card and go through a couple of fairly quick and easy security check points, your standard metal detector and baggage x ray, all simple and quick with noone i saw getting searched or patted down at all.
(pics of da big ass boat to come here)

the last one here was from high on the Jamaican hillside.

So on board the ship we get to our balcony room which was small yet quaint.  3 of us stayed in one state room to save a few bucks, 1 large bed with a small one for me which was very comfortable.

On the ship you don't use any cash it all goes to your sail and sign card which is billed to your credit card.  The food was nonstop with a huge veriety of things to eat from lobster and veal formal dinners to the 24 hour pizza.  They had burger and fries, buffets, dessert stands, chinese and taste of nations.  More food then you can ever imagine eating in 7 days. (the length of our cruise btw)  As we start out of Miami port we set sail first towards Costa Maya Mexico.  The first day on board i met Jenny, a lovely lady from Vancouver Canada, originally from China.  I ended up with her the whole cruise ( yeh i'm  the fucking man!, kiddin. She had a daughter with her, Teresa, very wonderful.  I'll of course have pics of all of us on the boat and in ports.
(pics of the inside of boat here)

Now as we near Costa Maya you can quickly see this is a very small port and new.  Cozamel was our original destination but the hurricane hit hard so we went to Costa Maya instead.  Now as we head off the boat here you give them you sail and sign card and the swipe it through there machine which brings up your picture, i'm assuming so they know who's off the boat and to make sure the right person gets back on the boat. There was no port security here at all. As you head down the docks it quickly becomes evident that the beaches are not swimmable here, the waves crash up against rocky shores with small tide pools.  As you enter port there are many shops selling verious trinkets and good from the locals.  Jewlery stores are big here and many strewn along the shops area.  A small overlook tower was breathtaking to look across the country side from.  Unfortunetly rain moved in about 3 hours into this excursion so we headed back to the boat.
(Pics of Costa Maya coming here)

on the docks.

The girl in pink is my buddies gf, the lovely chinese lady was the one i spent the cruise with, and her daughter.

more sunsets!

From Costa Maya we set sail again headed for the beautiful port of the Cayman Islands.  This port we had to anchor out and get ferry in, which was a big pain in the ass to say the least piling 250 people onto a ferry and such. Now security here was very on the ball.  As you get off the ferry you have to go through checkpoints and fencing to even get into port.  I spoted atleast 1 drug dog right off the bat sniffing his way through the crowd.  My suggestion is DO NOT try to bring anything into or out of this port!  We saw someone getting escorted into the port authorities in cuffs,(maybe he missed the dog on way in) We immedietly heading towards the Hard Rock Cafe in plain view of the port, next to the Harley Davidson shop.  After buying to many Tshirts at those shops we headed for a day on the beach of sun and fun in the very blue waters of the Caymans.  My buddy always on the hunt for sea shells which were plentiful.  The beaches and water alone are worth the trip here.  After a long sunburning day i took my lobsterfied ass back to the ship with my new lady friend.  Then it was onward towards Jamaica!!
(Cayman Island pics incoming)

We get within view of Jamaica with it's lush mountanous growth.  The port of Ochos Rios.  We get docked and my friend, his Gf and myself had down the docks.  As we get to the end there is a fence you walk through with 2 security/port authorities persons.  No dogs or anything else around at all.  Now here we head away from the port a bit into ochos rios going past the tour buses and cabs.  A block or so down the street we are greeted by an islander.  He obviously knows i'm on the hunt for the greenery, the Garcia tyedye perhaps.  So he introduces himself as Miguel.  He explains that in his cab, a lexus actually, we would be able to drink, smoke or do anything we please.  He hands us a business card which boosts he is "The Coolest Dude on the Island"  The lexus is well equiped with a sound system with video monitor on the dash for dvd and both headrests have screens for the back passengers.  We agree on a price for an all day tour of the island to meet the real people and agriculture of the island.  Now this price included a nice little bag of green as well.  So we climb in and start out on our journey through fern gully towards Bob Marleys home in which he grew up and is now intombed in a small church like building. Along the way he drives up to what may have been a shop of some sort with alot of locals standing outside.  The driver yells aout something and then drives around the building.  On the way back he slows down enough to give money and get a bag of green tossed into the car, withough ever stopping.  It appears to be about a 1/2 oz of nice green. We then proceed along. After zipping through fern gully we stop at a small road side shop, where Miguel tells me to go in and ask for Rizlas, which i did along with 2 cold local beers.  I believe it was 2 dollars for all 3 items.  What i got back were 2 dark beers and a pack of papers called Rizla.  The papers are about 5 inches or so long and 3 inches wide.  A very nice size joint wrap.  We then pull into some off the road small shack looking house where Miguel stops and greets someone.  He is introduced as bird leg and i was told he would roll our bag into joints as we walked down a path just a ways into some lush green foilage.  It amazed me that this local, Birdleg, was able to clean and roll these joints as we walked down this path in his hands with ease, handing them back to me to tuck into my cig pack.  We ended up with about 7 or 8 of these massive joints.  We came apoun this landowners small crop of nice looking sativa ladies.  The pictures do not do them justice.  After a brief discussion with the local about hermorphedites he seemed impressed with my knowledge of growing.  HEHE imagine that.  After leaving there it was up and down rolling green hills where we came to Bob Marleys home.  There a tour guide took us into the very small house where Bob grew up.  The small church like building where his tomb is housed is just up the hill from the house.  There are 6 stained glass windows on the building, 3 on each side, but no cameras were allowed inside the building.  We took our shoes off and filed in where the tomb where he and his half brother are.  As you walk around to the back of the tomb there hangs a tapestry.  On the taperstry is the words, "I asked god for a friend, and he sent you"  I believe this is word for word i made it a point to memorize it as i walked out due to no pictures inside.  We seen the painted rock which Bob sat on and wrote many of his songs as a young man.  At this point we were just blazed on the bud that we had gotten.  From here we decided to head for Dunn's river falls just to see them, but not climb up, just to much work and way to high for that.  Along the way we met the locals and went through country side one can only imagine.  After the falls it was getting late so we headed back into Ochos Rios for some souveniers.  A place called Oceans 11 has Tshirts 3 for 12 USd which is probly the best price ont he island.  Now i opted to leave a joint and a huge halfer in my cig pack heading though.  They did have a Xray machine if you had carry on, but i had nothing in my hands, and was waved through a small gate right to the dock with a smile from the nice security lady.  Back on board that night we got really ripped up on the top Lido deck where noone was around late at night. So to sum it all up.  We payed 300 dollars for 3 of us to go all aroudn the island the bud and all included in the price which we paid after we got back at port. =)  Best money ever spent!!! From there we set sail back towards Miami, where we planed to spend another night and go to the sea aquarium.
So enjoy the pics, and i'll get as many on as i can with room.
(Jamaican pics to go here)

Our driver and tour guide, Miguel, the coolest dude on the island.

Here is the bud the we got.  It ended up being alot more then it looks and the buzz was a heart pounding sativa high which made your mind soar, a very nice break from indicas up north.

Great views.

Ocho Rios from above.

country side.

Oldest tree on Jamaica we were told.  Over 800 years old.

Birdleg, the rolling god.

Us in the very small 2 room house where Bob Marley was raised.  His mother still comes to stay when on the island.  We stand in the small bedroom in which he was raised in this picture.

The tour guide sits on the rock which Bob wrote and played many songs.

Near by painted rock.

Here is the building which holds Bob Marleys tomb.

Many iquanas around.

Jamaican sunset on the ride out.

(MUCH MORE TO COME )) break time for door.

I didn't think you were coming back this early?  For some reason I didn't think I'd get to hear from you before I leave for Georgia.

I'm in Sioux City now and it really fucking sucks :crankey: Today we had a thunderstorm, that's about the most excitement I've had since I stuck myself to this shit hole.
I should of stayed in Sioux Falls.

Jonnywax, its like been pretty fall-like all winter. We had a week or so with temps below the teens, but overall its been very mild. They say on the news that we've only had 9" of snow all winter, which is less than half the average.

I must say, I don't mind this mild weather one bit. :smirk:
