Learn From Your Mistakes
    #18128912 -

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experiences.
Two small-sized tubs, each filled with 2 quarts coir/verm sub
and 1 quart colonized WBS. Cambo strain from MS syringe.
Both tubs are set in a SGFC atop 4 inches of perlite. My SGFC had
trouble holding humidity, so I bubble wrapped both tubs for a couple
days until I had pins form. Misted little, fanned a lot. Then misted lots, fanned lots.

The WBS jars took forever to fully colonize  :hissyfit: like 3 weeks. But patience...

So my errors for this grow:
-Forgot to add gypsum, both to sub and grains
-Forgot to mix the grains and sub after spawning to tubs
This caused me to wait even longer for the sub to colonize
    -Fruited a little early

Will definitely remember this for next time. Until then, cheers

"had trouble maintaining humidity in SGFC"

how many times have i saw that, and how many times have i repeated the same thing.

Anyway, first check your hygrometer, can it be calibrated. If it can wrap it in a damp towel and adjust to read 99%. if it cant then i wouldnt trust it being accurate in the high humidity range.

But anyway properly build SGFC should hold humidity fine.

What Veda said.

Your biggest mistake was bubble wrapping your SGFC. Adding gypsum is beneficial, but by not adding it to the sub you are not making an error. You can have a great pinset even without gypsum in the sub. I am sure you are aware of that.
RH in a properly built SGFC is always fine, but if you don't trust us case your trays and you won't have anymore issue as far as RH is concerned.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Let me just clarify a few things:

I did calibrate it just as you said
In fact, in the OP you can see it's at ~99% now...
It had trouble holding HIGH humidity (drops to
~80% at night when I did not mist for 6+ hours).
This was only in the beginning of fruiting,
where I "misted little" because there was enough water on my subs. Didn't want pools.

That being said, my SGFC is constructed properly,
just may not be placed in an ideal location
(blame it on small, confined living space).

Also, I did not wrap my whole FC with bubblewrap,
you're right LeopardMan, that would be a mistake,
and would require a lot of bubblewrap. I cut portions
and put it on the sub. After pins formed, I ditched it.

Either way, keep in mind anyone who is reading this that SGFC
works due to many factors, not just proper construction. Airflow,
placement, and the substrate/fruiting body within, etc...

I see, that's another story
