Could this work? -Crumble Cakes into SGFC-

So I've got an idea and I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried it before. Or just looking to see the reasons people shoot it down as quickly as I posted it.
I have an abundance of fully colonized brf jars (I got overzealous) and very little space for more SGFCs, and I can only fit so many cakes in each one anyway.\
In an effort to fit more cakes into one SGFC, could I birth, dunk, then crumble the cakes and put the result as a layer directly on top of the perlite in a SGFC? I would assume a casing layer would be recommended, but from what I've read (I've been searching and going through posts for the last 3 hours so please don't say "You need to search...") this doesn't seem mandatory.
My frame of mind on this is not only "fitting" more cakes into the SGFC, but creating MUCH more surface area for fruiting. Maybe the mycelium would grow to thick though and not let enough air up through the perlite layer? I dunno....you tell me.
This may be an incredibly stupid question, but I'm green as grass. Hey, at least I'm thinking outside the box....or I guess, inside the tub.
As always, any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

No do not crumble them on top of perlite, You can you use them to spawn to bulk in a minimono or monotub or trays. I find crumbling and casing cakes is a waste, but spawning them to bulk works well.
You can stack cakes ontop of each other

I wasn't completely honest in the last post.....I'm also trying not to invest in more supplies (yet...gotta space it out a little), such as the ingredients for a bulk substrate. My girlfriend will yell at me (make fun of me all you want, if you haven't been there yet you will be).
Also, I know about the stacks. I looked up the stacking tek and have one SGFC full of stacked sets. Good advice.
Edit: While I've got you reading my post, how long can I leave the cakes fully colonized in the jars? A few are pinning. Some more than others. Does pre-birth pinning have a negative effect?

Actually, you would not have to spend much money at all to spawn them to a bulk substrate that can be moved to your chamber.
I estimate, under $9.
Or you can stack them, as Shae said. It also wont hurt to wait, leave it in the jar until something is obviously wrong with them: Contamination, Bugs, ETC.
If you have an excess of jars, just scrape together change or recycle some soda cans to get some coir, you really don't need anything else if you want to save money. With a small tuperware bin and a brick of coir, you will be good to go.
It doesn't even have to be a tuperware bin. Anything plastic and able to hold the coir and your spawn will work. Look at a dollar store, many people buy those small trays from these place.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't looked into this much), but wouldn't I also have to set up a monotub if I'm using a bulk substrate? I'm also looking at extra tubs required for pasteurizing, am I not? I hate to prod, but could you throw me a link or a rough idea of a way to spawn to bulk for under $9? You have my attention fully!!!

Nope! That is why it's so nice in your case. You are almost there!
You just need a small plastic bin or tray that you can fit in your SG terrarium. They don't even need lids, as you can cover them with foil.
Dollar stores are great for these shoe-box size trays/bins.
Coir, is easily found at ACE hardware and other places, it is not very expensive and you will have plenty to use for a later date.
You would pasteurize the coir with boiling water (check out the monotub link in my sig), fill your trays, add the spawn, cover the some more coir, then cover the tray/bin with foil or a lid.
Once they are fully colonized cakes, you can throw them right in your fruiting chamber.
This would be a little better than just stacking cakes in your tub, plus you'll get practice with a bulk substrate and you can get the most out of your cakes at one time.

You can store fully colonized cakes in the fridge for later use
