My Morchella endeavors ( blonde sclerotia forming bags? in jars too?need opinions)
    #17957255 -

I have decided to jump on the mission since ive been very lucky so far with this hobby.

I recieved a blonde morel culture and a black morel spore print from a generous member from Claifornia.

The blonde was crazy right from the start with the petri dish he sent me overflowing. i transfered a wedge to another petri dish which colonized in a few days. so i nocced up a few jars of rye grain.
heres one of the first last week
i am about to g2g to some grass seed potting soil mix.looks like things are solidifying in a few spots.

the first jar i g2g to 6 jars, one was mixxed with potting soil. heres a few. dont be scared to shake!!

with the remainder of the grain in the jar i layered some sterilized potting soil.

With the black i swiped some  spores on a few petris of standard MEA with a few table spoons of filtered woodchip water.

its almost impossible to photograph . they germinated in about 24-48 hours. took a week to colonized fully and there is a bunch of little white balls! maybe sclerotia??

from these 2 petris i took 3 wedges from each and put them on tri segmented petris. one of the petris is colonized in under 48 hours!!

and thats where i am at for now.

when its ready your first on the list vers!

noticed my other black morel plate has woken up and covered most of the 3 segmented dish. the speed is incredible. If you had a good time lapse camera this would be wicked to see!!!

Nocced up some mixxed grass seed and potting soil jars last night with the blonde . interested to see them in the next few days!!
going to go to sawdust/chip mix next with my other rye jars, may try some fir too. im not waiting around for no apple wood. i highly doubt its that picky. its going outside anyways. i am happy i thought this process would take longer but you can generate mass amounts of myc in a quick amount of time if you went hard.

I have been finding morels near jackson ms. The city put out fresh mulch a few weeks ago and they started popping up . I have found about 10 so far.

Its funny that you should say that I just went to walmart and on my way back through I was looking out for some but there was none.I was going to try to clone them. I just seen one out there a couple days ago. The temps went from the fifty's to 75 in the past 2 days.

Looking good!  What are your plans for growing them?  What will you spawn to?

my plan is to do outdoor innoculations with sawdust/chip spawn in orchards and around old fruit trees and maybe some hybrid cottonwood plantations that i find Verpa bohemicas . i have prepared a spot at one of my mycolandscapes under some apple trees where i mixxed charcoal and ashes with wood chips last year for this years innoculations for the blacks.
But the myc grows so fast I plan on leaving some jars to further colonize and maybe form sclerotia which i would like to plant outside as well. and if i CAN get sclerotia to grow I may fuck around with trying to figure something out for inside fruitings. but thats kinda my last goal and who knows if i can even get stones.

Here I am checking out your thread psy, is this your official morel log?

Your jars look great, I'm curious to see if sclerotia forms in the jars without layers.

Tracking.

A little info about the burn morels.

They were found under redwood, on north facing slopes.  They pop up during Spring, a few weeks after the rains.  There is still plenty of moisture around since they don't get too much sun and the redwoods do a good job of condensing moisture.  They like a little bit of sunlight, just a little sliver.

What happens too is there will be a big patch of mycelium that pops up, first white/grey, then converting to a yellow/orange closer to fruiting.  Here's a few pictures where you can see it:

I just started some spores too!  Psylosymon, you definitely motivated me!  My plan of action is to introduce some spawn to a similar location, then  I'm planning on making a burn pile after a few weeks and then waiting another year to see what  pops up.  I believe the morels are ever present in the soil and can wait decades for a fire to trigger fruiting.  I've also found morels pop up at my parents' burn pile in the Sierra's, without any introduction.

put some blonde grain spawn to sterilied mix of maple/alder chips with fir saw dust. almost ready to plant!! i hope with a year in the ground nature can hopefully make some sclerotia.

the myc is super strong if you leave it too long.i was trying to shake some grain loose and i was tapping the jar with a rubber mallet. it broke but i didnt want to waste it so i put it in a zip loc with just soaked unsterilized or pasturized chips and thats taken off too.

got some black isolates on grain and i think they are doing good. its wierd wispy myc at first. almost like cobweb. but i am pretty sure its not. i think they might be making sclerotia too since i transfered small sclerotia from the plate into the grain and their seems to be some chunks forming against the glass. get pics later.
