So they are supposedly non-profit - put up all this open source crap in the beginning of the videos and have a $ with a slash through it.  They are making 16 million just off attendees, not paying the speakers

this could be why they dont turn a profit, keeping a hundred extra people
on staff for this, or maybe this is the way they censor shit

Also, people are saying that Alex Grey did a video that never got put up - anybody have info on this?

could it be because alex grey is a pretentious, over rated twat that only a
tiny group of people have any interest in and they didnt feel it was worth
the bandwidth

I don't see any reward or positiveness or anything substantial in dissing people. There are people that crack down on McKenna, here you are beating up Alex Grey. There are those who seem to puke at the mere mentioning of Joe Rogan.

I don't know man. What is the point. We all have our personal preferences. But it seems no one is safe! How does it help your life to reject people. Aren't we all unique and have something special about us? I don't feel the need to judge that way, unless someone behaves like a downright moron, let people do their thing.

How is it that one can use the mushroom regularly and still have this need to categorize people and dismiss them because of something that they do or say?

Thankfully your opinion has no bearing on me.

Because McKenna was a delusional, excessively-stoned fool.

Definitely not.

People generally want to guard their reality tunnel. It's a survival mechanism in the human brain, that evolved to distinguish unordinary, potentially dangerous situations from the accustomed backdrop of the natural environment. Today we use this to protect ourselves from new ideas that don't fit into our cultural backdrop, ideas which could potentially alter our worldview and change who we are >> death anxiety.

what does a mushroom have to do with anything, if mushrooms are supposed to
be a source of enlightenment then wouldnt that include allowing others to
express their opinions just as you've done or does it only permit one to
express their views as long as they conform to those you share

Instead you just chose to call him an overrated twat.

i don't take your word for it because you've obviously never met him in person before. he's actually really layed back, a bit eccentric, and a compassionate human being.

i agree his paintings tend to repeat the same themes over and over again, which i've found to be boring over time. nevertheless, alex grey's work has been an inspiration for my own art, although i've sort of lost my marvel for him ever since i watched him paint that glorified savior portrait of obama back when he still had his loft in NYC. there are visionary artists by now who go far beyond what alex grey does today, but that still makes him a pioneer who has definitely made his mark in the visionary art scene.

judging a person harshly who you've never even met doesn't make you look smart and informed

No, just asking questions. Trying to understand this thing where people for some reason have such feelings about someone in particular.

A valid point. Shrooms do different things to different people. But the question is, what are they for? Mere entertainment? Or for enlightenment, spiritual growth? For me it is the latter. I guess spiritual growing does not have to be all serious and heavy, there can be a fun aspect to it. I guess there should be, otherwise it would not be fun. But some people emphasize the fun bit more than the spiritual growth.

And to each his own. I am not judging that. But it seems that this thing is a tool for a lot more than just a sort of interval cinema show. I believe that whatever you enter into it with, that will be your channel. You take a lot of who and what you are and believe with you and it will color the experience. The power and intensity I encounter seems to be able to wash away all silly notions.

Last time I took it, it was made clear that I was a joke, a mere reflection on the surface of reality, a protrusion out of the same eternal infinite field of existence. That is psychobabble rap for 'don't take yourself so seriously'. :-) I got to 'get off it' and 'you are a hystery'. Before this trip I knew not to take myself so seriously and this time it slapped me around a bit with a large trout to batter my ego down, lol. I can take it, that is what I use it for.

But listen man. Enlightenment doesn't mean you ascend all opinion, that you withhold yourself from reality looking down upon others. I am very keen on not falling into that trap, it is just a sneaky way of your ego to elbow itself in front of you again, clouding judgment. Enlightenment can never mean the opinions of others are irrelevant. But there are things like wisdom and life experience that may have some valid perspective on some notions in people.

To suggest that I demand conformation to my set of perspectives is kinda overstating it I think. We are all in it together on this world and I realized - you may call it enlightened if you will -  that when you reach some level of understanding on wtf 'it' is all about, there is no holy aura around you, you do not levitate on command, you do not neccesarily have a better working moral compass. In fact, it feels rather just like before.

And to loop this back into the topic, that is what I find so questionable about TED's censorship and allegiance to this scientific materialistic dogmatic view on reality. It is extremely easy to judge another. And look upon the world. So much misery, war and shit going on, all because we seem so judgmental. In my experience the mushroom, looking at what it does to me, dosing on a tri-weekly basis, it does seem to have this innate groove for enlightenment - if you seek it!I share my perspective and that is what a forum is for. And in the opposition of values and norms I find something ... amazing. Don't you?

a drug does not provide one with spiritual growth, that come from within
which is why some lose their spirituality while others find it and others
still it strengthens it. the drug is just a drug and for those that are
finding some spiritual nature to the drug they do so because that's
something they've always harbored but also doubted

sounds to me like you ate shrooms and thought on your own insecurities,
this isnt magic, spirituality or enlightenment, it's you beating yourself
down while intoxicated, even alcohol can have that effect

the key to enlightenment is to fist understand that there is no enlightenment
that it's all a construct of our minds just as the pompous alex grey
believes he's some great visionary, these 'judgements' dont come from my
ego but from the fact that I wont feed the egos of others that tend to try
and hold themselves above others such as grey

and yet you're suggesting that I conform through your own judgements,
holding my views to be invalid because they dont mesh with yours, telling me that I shouldnt hold my opinion of someone I view as a pretentious twat because it's a 'harsh judgement being fed by my ego' without actually looking at the man I'm talking about and how others are seeing him

So anyway...

TED just officially removed Graham Hancock's video.  Not way back hidden, they actually just made the decision to completely remove them.  WTF?

"I am disgusted to report that TED has indeed hidden my "War on Consciousness" presentation and Rupert Sheldrake's "Science Delusion" presentation on the TEDx Youtube channel. Both videos are now marked as private and so no member of the public can now view them or make up their own minds about them. If this is how science operates, by silencing those who express opposing views rather than by debating with them, then science is dead and we are in a new era of the Inquisition."

Thank you for your opinion, I don't agree with it, but I definitely haven't heard idea of TED taking them down being applauded yet.  After now watching both videos I could see why Hancock's video is somewhat controversial and why TED wouldn't want people to see it - but I found Sheldrake's speech very enlightening and would not consider it pseudoscience.  I feel like he just brings up embarrassing parts of the academic world that have yet to be addressed in the mainstream.  For instance, the change in the speed of light and gravity.  I never knew the speed of light was different, and I was enjoyed the idea of constants in science possibly fluctuating.  Only towards the end of his talk did I really feel like he was going into territory that may justify someone in a high shady position to gank the video.  It just re-enforces my belief that we really are connected in more ways that we can perceive.

Great article on Wired about TED and pseudoscience:

http://www.wired.com/business/2012/12/pseudo-science-saps-the-power-of-tedx/

TED's response yesterday to the 2 videos "Graham Hancock and Rupert Sheldrake, a fresh take":

http://blog.ted.com/2013/03/18/graham-hancock-and-rupert-sheldrake-a-fresh-take/

This makes me feel a little better about TED.  I've seen some WHACK ass TEDx talks about free energy (Randy Powell at TEDxCharlotte... wtf?)

Speaking of Alex Grey and CoSM - I would loved to have seen his speech that was taken down,  but I do find his following a bit cult-like and creepy.  I've been to the old and the new CoSM upstate a few times and gotten mixed vibes.  I think the man is a pioneer and has made some amazing art that gives light to the things we can't see in all stages of life from birth to death... but I still have a bad feeling in the bottom of my stomach and feel that the CoSM and TED go hand-in-hand with the idea of how a large amount of money and power can shift one's ideologies in a negative way, whatever that may be.
