Why grow mushrooms differently then nature?
    #1749664 - 07/25/03 10:18 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

What i mean is, you see mushrooms grow of wood and grass in nature. So why cant you get a nice tub, fill it with dirt, grass, and moss. Then inject the spores? wouldn't that work? it does outside

People grow the way they do because they want guaranteed results, not the crap shoot that Mother Nature likes.

nature is funny .... out there all the "contaims" (mold and shit) have there own place .. but in your "fake outside" the are intruders and will ruin the grow.  i know this because i too said "fuck all this "clean" shit mushrooms grow just fine outside"  and eace and evey time i failed.  if you do try it i wish you luck and if it works let me know how you did it i would love to try again.  i know it works outside and it is a kick in the nuts (if you have them  .. gender unknown hehe) that i will not work that way indoors but i does not.
bless that mother nature she is mysterious

And also if grown outside, you have risk of deadly mushroom(perhaps it looks like your mushrooms at first glance) spores landing on your substrate, colonizing it, and next thing you know, you're dead

the likelyhood of that actually happening is ridiculously small.

I agree in nature about 1 in 100 cow pies will form mushrooms and the mushroom potency(psilocybin) is better when grown indoors and that has been proven. When use grow indoors you can sterilizes all your tools and your substrate(cow dung, grain,BRF,wood chips) so that way you cut you chances of contams by now maybe 1 in every 30 cakes will contam (thats an example not real numbers). So it makes no sence to spray tons and tons of spores on cow dung in the nature when you will only get 4 or 5 cakes that will grow mushrooms and that are smaller and that are not as poten. When if your grow inside you can have almost 100% cotam free so every jar you inoculate will most likely growm mycelium.

NOTE:these are all rough and made up figures to give you and idea and not to be taken into account.

The environment indoors is completely different than the environment outdoors. Thus, a different method of growing is required for indoors than for outdoors. You cannot expect mushrooms to grow well under the same circumstances, but in a different environment.

Moreover, in the wild, mushrooms are thousands of times more rare than they should be, considering everywhere their spores land (which is essentially everywhere). When grown inside mycelia, and thus mushrooms, can grow everywhere you intend for them to.

The reason we grow mushrooms the way we do is simply because we cannot gow them at all if we do not.

Yes, some mushrooms.
But the one you want to ciltivate, Psilocybe cubensis, grows on dung in nature.

The only way I can see that you would be successful in trying what you are talking about is to make a mycelium syringe and try that. Also you would need to use a lot of mycelium solution in your outdoor substrate to ensure that you establish a dense area of mycelium to grow through it. Even then it would be iffy.

I'll tell you what I'll do. I have a shitload of honey TEK water left over from inoculating some jars of WBS and I'll give it a try. I don't think it will work but I really don't have any use for the mycelium water right now. I can always make more. If I get any colonization I will post it.

Well I injected a compost heap with mycelium from a syringe and left it alone. Within three days I saw definate growth but I didn't keep it moist and it dried out.

I used about an entire 30 cc syringe in an area about 10" square.

It's just not efficient.
