I haven't had sleep paralysis or OBEs since improving my mental and physical health. They are pretty much pathological (stress, sleep comfort problems, dehydration etc.) but the experience may suggest consciousness is independent of the body.

There is no doubt the OBE can be utterly strange, but it may just be your state of mind at the time. Healthy minded people having OBEs on psychoactives have reported beautiful experiences, and the big names on "astral travel" etc. seem pretty upbeat about it all.

Personally I think you better sort your physical life out and make it all kind of beautiful etc. before you touch the OBE stuff. You're pretty much stepping into the afterlife and that's genuinely fucking left-of-center.

I do notice the frequency that I experience SP increases when there is stress and/or depression in my life. But I've experienced SP along with many other "sleep" related phenomena since I was a young child all through out my life. I've always been a oneironaut, been lucid dreaming since I was in kindergarten,

Since I made this thread over 4 years ago, I've come a long way in dealing with SP. It used to really bother me, and every once in a great while it still does. But for the most part it no longer gets to me and I can often use it as a spring board into vivid lucid dreams or astral projection. I must say, I have had some very peculiar and intriguing experiences.

The entire experience of SP and the OBE's that occur during such things, as well as the presence of "entities" (or archetypes of sorts?), the penetrating vibrations.....it is all very reminiscent of my experiences with DMT (as well as salvia in certain aspects). I see many parallels between those, really makes me go hmmm :strokebeard: ...

I keep an open mind about all of these sorts of things, not throwing any labels on what exactly it is I'm experiencing. I just like to observe and draw connections between the experiences life throws at me. Some fascinating stuff for sure though.

SP is nothing to be afraid of.

For me its my tool for astral projecting, as is for most people who are familiar and willing to project.

Im still a novice to projecting but Im fairly certain its mandatory to go through at least a moment of sleep paralysis before projecting.

Try letting it take you over instead of fighting it and you will be in for a wild ride.
